SETTLING KINETICS OF CHAMPAGNE YEAST
ARIKAN, O; OZILGEN, M (Elsevier BV, 1992-09-01)
Settling kinetics of champagne yeast were studied with 0.01, 0.05, and 0.10 m NaCl, CaCl2, AlCl3, and 1.00 +/- 0.01 OD660 (optical density at 660 nm) initial yeast concentration at pH 1. In the suspensions with 0.01 M NaCl, the pH of the medium varied between 1 and 3, and the initial yeast concentration changed between 0.74 and 1.25 OD660. Analysis of the data showed that the settling phenomena occurred in two steps: (i) establishment of the diffuse double layer to overcome repulsion, hence achievement of c...

Recovery calculations of oil fields using predictive models
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Informa UK Limited, 2006-12-01)
Oil reservoirs are often candidates for secondary and tertiary recovery processes. These recovery processes are needed to be screened for priority ranking due to budget, manpower, development, capabilities and permitting limitations. Sensitivity studies also need to be made in order to determine the effects of various operating strategies on project performance and economic feasibility. In this research, the application of different enhanced oil recovery methods on five heavy oil fields with different reser...
Retention of SO2 emission of coal combustion by using lime in briquetting
Altun, Naci Emre; Bagci, AS (Informa UK Limited, 2006-04-01)
In this study, the effect of lime on control of SO2 emissions was investigated by briquetting of coal particles with various lime contents. The influence of the added lime was determined not only from the view of its contribution to environmental aspects but also in terms of effects on the thermal features and reaction kinetics of coal. The extent of improvement was determined by detailed sulfur analysis. Thermal qualification and reaction kinetics of the coal briquettes with varying lime contents were perf...
