Full-wave analysis of microstrip lines on a highly lossy substrate
Prakash, VVS; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa; Mittra, R (Wiley, 2003-06-05)
The finite-element method has been used for analyzing open microstrip line structures on highly lossy substrates. The geometry descritization has been carried out by using quadrilateral elements, and the spurious solutions art avoided by employing tangential vector formulation. The difficulties associated with finding the propagation constant of a highly lossy structure 13.1, solving a generalized eigenvalue problem are discussed. A methodology is presented, for a fast and efficient computation of the attenu...
Full-wave optimization of three-dimensional photonic-crystal structures involving dielectric rods
KARAOSMANOGLU, Bariscan; ERAY, Hamza; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2018-07-01)
We present rigorous optimization and design of three-dimensional photonic-crystal (PhC) structures involving finite dielectric rods. These types of PhCs are known to be useful in diverse applications, such as imaging, power focusing, filtering, and pattern shaping at optical frequencies. Without resorting to their two-dimensional models, which are commonly used in the literature, we consider PhCs as three-dimensional structures, whose electromagnetic characteristics are optimized via genetic algorithms inte...
Full-Wave Electromagnetic Optimizations of Corrugated Metallic Sheets
Altinoklu, Askin; Karaosmanoglu, Bariscan; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2016-07-01)
We present optimizations of corrugated metallic sheets for desired electromagnetic responses. Patches of finite extents are considered and deformed to achieve the required characteristics. Optimizations are performed by using genetic algorithms (GAs), while the required accurate solutions are performed via the multilevel fast multipole algorithm. In addition to improvements in GAs, the optimization environment is enhanced by using dynamic accuracy control and adaptive mesh refinement to handle thousands of ...
Full-Wave Analysis of Three-Dimensional Optical Metamaterials Involving Deformed Nanowires
Karaosmanoglu, B.; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2015-09-12)
We present computationally intensive electromagnetic analysis of metamaterials involving deformed nanowires. Random deformations are introduced to modify perfect nanowires in order to investigate the effect of geometric deviations on scattering properties of optical metamaterials. Numerical simulations of realistic structures of finite extent are performed accurately and efficiently using a rigorous simulation environment based on surface formulations and the multilevel fast multipole algorithm (MLFMA). Sta...
Full-wave Electromagnetic Optimizations of Photonic Crystals Involving Dielectric Rods
Eray, H.; Karaosmanoglu, B.; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-11-22)
We consider full-wave optimizations of photonic crystals (PhCs) involving dielectric rods to obtain desired output patterns for given excitations. Starting from a full grid, each rod is kept or extracted in order to maximize the power density at different output locations. PhCs are modeled as three-dimensional structures, which are analyzed via surface integral equations and the multilevel fast multipole algorithm, in order to investigate realistic problems without resorting to infinite-length assumptions. ...
