The Axisymmetric crack problem in a nonhomogeneous interfacial region between homogeneous half-spaces
Fildiş, Halidun; Yahşi, O. Selçuk; Department of Mechanical Engineering (1995)
The effect of tempering on susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking of AISI 4140 steel in 33% sodium hydroxide at 80 degrees C
Sarioglu, F (2001-09-30)
The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behaviour of low alloy steel AISI 4140 was investigated in 33% sodium hydroxide solution at 80 degreesC under freely corroding conditions. Tempering temperatures of 450, 500, 550, 600 and 650 degreesC were used to produce a range of micro structures and strength levels. The relation between the crack growth rate and the stress intensity factor was obtained by constant displacement rate tests conducted on pre-cracked compact tension specimens. The crack growth behaviour an...
An eye movement analysis of chess players across levels of expertise: an electrooculography study
Erkent, Özgür; Yağcıoğlu, Süha; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2004)
The eye movements of expert and novice chess players were recorded by electrooculography (EOG) technique as they attempted to find the mate in fifteen tactically active simple chess positions. In the analysis part of the data gathered from EOG recordings, the effect of the drift, which is an important problem for EOG, was reduced. The processed data were converted into coordinates of the display on which the chess positions were demonstrated. In the test phase, the players were asked to fixate the white kin...
Two-stage fatigue life evaluation of an aircraft fuselage panel with a bulging circumferential crack and a broken stringer
Sayar, B.; Kayran, Altan (2014-05-01)
The article presents two-stage fatigue life evaluation of a stiffened aluminium aircraft fuselage panel, subject to ground-air-ground pressure cycles, with a bulging circumferential crack and a broken stringer. As a worst-case scenario, it is assumed that double cracks start at the edge of a rivet hole both in the skin and in the stringer simultaneously. In the first stage, fatigue crack growth analysis is performed until the stringer is completely broken with the crack on the fuselage skin propagating. Aft...
STRAIN PARTITIONING AND PLASTIC-FLOW IN SOME METAL-METAL LAMINATES
Öztürk, Tayfur; EDIZ, T (1994-02-28)
An investigation is carried out into the plane strain deformation of model laminates incorporating a single hard layer. A total of four laminates based on Al alloy(5053)-steels and Cu-W are investigated in which the relative hardness of the constituent layers, r(h), are in the range between 2 and 13. It is found that the deformation is uniform in the initial stages of plane-strain, the strain being partitioned equally between the constituent layers. The regime of uniform deformation is prolonged in samples ...
