The prevalence of suicide attempts is increasing. Considering that this increase is particularly evident during adolescence and young adulthood, the aim of the present study was defined as examining the discourses of individuals who have attempted suicide regarding their suicide attempts and their mothers, within a sample from this specific age group. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with five participants, and the audio recordings obtained during the interviews were transcribed. The recordings, transcribed without punctuation and coded, were analyzed within the framework of Lacanian Discourse Analysis and the seven proposed elements. The emerging themes after the primary analysis focusing of repetitions, emphases, absences and relationship with the Other were Mother’s Position rather than a Figure and The Place of Suicide Attempt in Discourse. These analyses were discussed in light of the relevant literature. Along with these themes, the mother has been addressed in detail as a position in the discourse of suicide attempts and explained in a way that answers the research questions. The findings of this study are considered to be useful for clinical practice, and suggestions for future research are provided.
