Interaction between TNT and Melatonin-DFT Treatment
Türker, Burhan Lemi; Atalar, Taner (2012-01-01)
The interaction between TNT and a biologically important molecule-melatonin-has been investigated at the level of density functional theory. The calculations showed that these molecules in vacuum conditions orient themselves almost parallel, face to face with each other. Various energies, physico-chemical, and quantum chemical properties of the system are computed. The calculated electrostatic charges, UV, and NMR spectra show the presence of a strong interaction between TNT and melatonin. However, presentl...
Interaction of Intestinal Microbiota and Intestinal Epithelial Health in High Carbohydrate Diet
Ulutaş, Mehmet Sefa; Gültekin, Güzin Candan; Aydın, Aysun Cebeci; Department of Biotechnology (2021-8)
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) are chronic inflammatory disorders that cause prolonged inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. In western countries high fat and protein consumption is shown as the main cause of inflammatory bowel diseases. However, traditional Turkish diet heavily relies on carbohydrate-based foods, the incidence of IBD in Turkey is very similar to western countries. We hypothesize that this may be due to high carbohydrate consumption. In the first part of the study, the interactio...
Influences of nanoclays on the flame retardancy of fiber-filled and unfilled polyamide-6 with and without aluminum diethylphosphinate
Kaynak, Cevdet (2015-03-01)
The objective of this study was to investigate contribution of nanoclays to the flame retardancy of polyamide-6 and its 15 wt% short glass fiber-reinforced composite with and without an organophosphorus flame-retardant aluminum diethylphosphinate. Nanocomposites were compounded by melt mixing method via twin-screw extruder, and the specimens for testing and analyses were shaped by injection and compression molding. Transmission electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction analyses indicated that nanoclay layer...
Interactions of high hydrostatic pressure, pressurization temperature and pH on death and injury of pressure-resistant and pressure-sensitive strains of foodborne pathogens
Alpas, Hami; BOZOGLU, F; RAY, B (Elsevier BV, 2000-09-15)
The objective of this: study is to determine the interactions between high hydrostatic pressure, pressurization temperature, time and pH during pressurization on death and injury of pressure-resistant and pressure-sensitive strains of four foodborne pathogens: Staphylococcus aureus 485 and 765, Listeria monocytogenes CA and OH2, Escherichia coli O157:H7 933 and 931, Salmonella enteritidis FDA and Salmonella typhimurium E21274. Among these strains S. aureus 485, L. monocytogenes CA, E, coli O157:H7 933 and S...
