This study evaluates the greenhouse gas emission reduction, energy generation, and revenue potential of landfill gas-to-energy projects in Türkiye. Landfill gas recovery reduces methane emissions while also providing economic benefits through energy generation. The results show that the analyzed projects achieve approximately 5.86 million tCO₂e of annual average emission reductions while also generating renewable electricity. Financial analysis indicates that the projects remain below their benchmark returns under the base case, whereas a carbon value of USD 50/tCO₂e improves financial performance and enables several projects to exceed their benchmark rates. The cost-benefit analysis further indicates that the societal benefits of emission reductions may exceed the costs of policy support provided to these projects. These findings highlight the environmental and energy benefits of landfill gas recovery and indicate that long-term financial viability may depend on policy support and carbon-pricing mechanisms in Türkiye.
