Effects of joint action and nature of task setting on time perception
Usal, Kerem Alp; Hohenberger, Annette Edeltraud; Department of Cognitive Sciences (2016)
In this paper we study the effect of social condition on prospective time estimation: do we perceive temporal durations differently long when we perform a task (i) alone, (ii) with a collaborative, or (iii) with a competitive partner? Within the Attentional Gate Model (Block & Zakay, 2006), we argue that joint settings require more attentional resources than the single setting, leaving less resources for time estimation. Therefore, we expect that (i) temporal durations are more underestimated in the joint c...
Effects of dynamic loading on neocartilage formation
Çiçek Rezaeitabar, Gülçin; Tezcaner, Ayşen; Altunbaş, Korhan; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2022-8-09)
Cartilage tissue engineering has gained attention to meet the increasing demand for articular cartilage treatment in ageing populations. In this study, a visible light crosslinkable Methacrylated Glycol Chitosan (MeGC)-Fibrinogen (Fib) hydrogel system which can potentially be used in cartilage tissue engineering applications was developed. Incorporation of Fib into MeGC hydrogel structure decreased the swelling, led to increase in stability and improved the mechanical properties of hydrogels. Besides Fib ad...
Effects of melodic accents on perception of intensity
Tekman, HG (University of California Press, 1998-06-01)
Melodically accented tones are perceived as having higher intensity. Subjects judged whether or not all of the tones in a sequence were of equal intensity. Melodic accents were created by pitch skips, and the intensity of the tones that followed the skips was manipulated. Introduction of the melodic accents reduced detection of lower intensity tones more than it reduced the detection of higher intensity tones. This effect did not change as a result of regular or irregular timing of the tones whose intensity...

Effects of hue, saturation, and brightness on preference
Camgoz, N; Yener, C; Guvenc, D (Wiley, 2002-06-01)
A study was done to investigate preference responses for foreground-background color relationships. To do this, 123 university undergraduates in Ankara, Turkey, were asked to view eight background colors selected from HSB color space on which color squares of differing hues, saturations, and brightnesses were presented. Subjects were asked to show the color square they, preferred on the presented background color. Findings showed that colors having maximum saturation and brightness were most preferred. Blue...
