TENSILE, FLEXURAL AND IMPACT PROPERTIES OF A THERMOPLASTIC MATRIX REINFORCED BY GLASS-FIBER AND GLASS BEAD HYBRIDS
Yılmazer, Ülkü (Elsevier BV, 1992-01-01)
The tensile and flexural properties, together with the unnotched and notched impact strengths of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), glass bead (GB) and glass fiber (GF) ternary composites have been studied. The tensile strengths of the hybrid composites were predicted, from a theory formulated in this study, by using the strengths of the ABS/GB and ABS/GF composites alone. The addition of even a small quantity of glass fiber to ABS or ABS/GB composites changes the mode of deformation from one which sh...
Tensile properties and microstructure of additively manufactured Grade 91 steel for nuclear applications
Eftink, Benjamin P.; Vega, Daniel A.; El Atwani, Osman; Sprouster, David J.; Yoo, Yung Suk J.; Steckley, Todd E.; Aydoğan Güngör, Eda; Cady, Carl M.; Al-Sheikhly, Mohamad; Lienert, Thomas J.; Maloy, Stuart A. (Elsevier BV, 2021-02-01)
© 2020 Elsevier B.V.Laser powder bed additively manufactured Grade 91 composition steel was investigated in comparison to wrought Grade 91 steel in terms of microstructure and mechanical properties. As-deposited additively manufactured Grade 91 steel had a microstructure of lower bainitic regions surrounded by martensite. This is significantly different from the typical tempered martensitic microstructure of conventionally produced Grade 91 steel. The as-deposited additively manufactured material had excell...
TENSILE FATIGUE BEHAVIOR OF TIGHTLY WOVEN CARBON CARBON COMPOSITES
OZTURK, A; MOORE, RE (Elsevier BV, 1992-01-01)
The tensile fatigue behaviour of a tightly woven carbon/carbon composite was investigated as a function of stress level. Load-controlled fatigue tests were performed in tension-tension mode with a stress ratio, R, of 0.1 under ambient laboratory conditions. Results of composite behaviour are discussed in terms of the relationship of the stress/strain behaviour to the fatigue life of these composites as well as the effects of applied stress levels. It is shown that these composites exhibit good resistance to...
Tensile behavior of post-installed chemical anchors embedded to low strength concrete
YILMAZ, SALİH; Özen, Muhammet Ali; YARDIM, YAVUZ (Elsevier BV, 2013-10-01)
In the scope of this paper, tensile capacities of post-installed chemical anchors embedded to 5.9 and 10.9 MPa concrete blocks are investigated. Pull-out tests are applied to 80 ductile steel bars (S420a). For the anchor diameters, 12, 16 and 20 mm are chosen. On the other hand, 10, 15 and 20 times the bar diameter are selected as free-edge distance and embedment depth for monotonic tensile loading tests. The results indicate that installation of anchors into low-strength concrete with sufficient embedment ...
Tensile and impact strengths of steel fiber reinforced polymer impregnated concrete
Yalçin, Nilüfer; Gündüz, Güngör (Elsevier BV, 1986-11)
Ordinary concrete was reinforced by (i) steel fiber, (ii) polymer impregnation, and (iii) by both steel fiber and polymer impregnation. The tensile strength of concrete was increased 2.62 times by steel fiber reinforcement, 5.56 times by polymer impregnation, and 7.52 times by the combined technique. The increase in impact strength for these three cases were 2–3, 7–15, and 9–15 times respectively, over the plain concrete. Polymer loading was increased from 7% to 9.5% by pressure impregnation at 15 atm. Then...
