A new anisotropic perfectly matched layer medium for mesh truncation in finite difference time domain analysis
Tong, MS; Chen, YC; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa; Mittra, R (1999-09-01)
In this paper an unsplit anisotropic perfectly matched layer (PML) medium, previously utilized in the context of finite element analysis, is implemented in the finite difference time domain (FDTD) algorithm. The FDTD anisotropic PML is easy to implement in the existing FDTD codes, and is well suited for truncating inhomogeneous and layered media without special treatment required in the conventional PML approach. A further advantage of the present approach is improved performance at lower frequencies. The a...
A novel adaptive unscented Kalman filter for pico satellite attitude estimation
Söken, Halil Ersin (2011-09-08)
Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) is a filtering algorithm which gives sufficiently good estimation results for estimation problems of nonlinear systems even in case of high nonlinearity. However, in case of system uncertainty UKF becomes to be inaccurate and diverges by time. In other words, if any change occurs in the process noise covariance, which is known as a priori, filter fails. This study, introduces a novel Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filter (AUKF) algorithm based on the correction of process noise cova...
A new HMM topology for shape recognition
Arica, N; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay (1999-06-23)
This study deals with the shape recognition problem using the Hidden Markov Model (HMM). In many pattern recognition applications, selection of the size and topology of the HMM is mostly done by heuristics or using trial and error methods. It is well known that as the number of states and the non-zero state transition increases, the complexity of the HMM training and recognition algorithms increases exponentially. Oil the other hand, many Studies indicate that increasing the size and non-zero state transiti...
A New modal superposition method for nonlinear vibration analysis of structures using hybrid mode shapes
Ferhatoğlu, Erhan; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat; Ciğeroğlu, Ender; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2017)
In this thesis, a new modal superposition method based on a hybrid mode shape concept is developed for the determination of steady state vibration response of nonlinear structures. The method is developed specifically for systems having nonlinearities where the stiffness of the system may take different limiting values. Stiffness variation of these nonlinear systems enables one to define different linear systems corresponding to each value of the limiting equivalent stiffness. Moreover, the response of the ...
