Simulation of the stabilization of magnetic islands by ecrh and eccd
Ayten, Bircan; Bilikmen, Kadri Sinan; Department of Physics (2009)
An almost universal instability in high pressure plasmas is the Neoclassical Tearing Mode (NTM). NTMs are driven by local perturbations in the current density and result in magnetic island like deformations of the magnetic topology. They can be stabilized by compensating the current perturbations with local electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) or with non-inductive current drive (ECCD). The modified Rutherford equation describes the nonlinear evolution of tearing modes as determined by various contri...
Simulation of seismic triggering and failure time perturbations associated with the 30 October 2020 Samos earthquake (Mw 7.0)
Sopaci, Eyup; Özacar, Atilla Arda (2021-01-01)
The 30 October 2020 Samos earthquake (Mw = 7.0) ruptured a north-dipping offshore normal fault north of the Samos Island with an extensional mechanism. Aftershocks mainly occurred at the western and eastern ends of the rupture plane in agreement with the Coulomb static stress changes. Mechanism of aftershocks located west of the rupture supported activation of the neighboring strike-slip fault almost instantly. In addition, a seismic cluster including events with Mw similar to 4 has emerged two days later a...
Simulation of capacity expansion and sequencing alternatives for a sheet metal producer
Arer, MM; Özdemirel, Nur Evin (Informa UK Limited, 1999-06-01)
We present a simulation case study carried out for a make-to-order aluminium sheet producer located in Istanbul, Turkey. We are concerned with a subsystem of the factory consisting of continuous casting, cold rolling, and annealing processes. Two simulation models are developed: (1) a combined model for studying the casting process only; (2) a discrete event model for comparing capacity expansion alternatives and order sequencing rules in the subsystem. Operational characteristics of the real system and pas...

Simulation of turbulence induced sound generation inside stenosed femoral artery models with different severities and eccentricities
Ozden, Kamil; Yazıcıoğlu, Yiğit; Sert, Cüneyt (2021-09-01)
Background and objectives: Recent developments of low-cost, compact acoustic sensors, advanced signal processing tools and powerful computational resources allow researchers design new scoring systems for acoustic detection of arterial stenoses. In this study, numerical simulations of blood flow inside stenosed arteries are performed to understand the effect of stenosis severity and eccentricity on the turbulence induced wall pressure fluctuations and the generated sound. Methods: Axisymmetric and eccentric...
