Rate-distortion optimization for stereoscopic video streaming with unequal error protection
Tan, A. Serdar; Aksay, Anil; Akar, Gözde; ARIKAN, ERDAL (2009-01-01)
We consider an error-resilient stereoscopic streaming system that uses an H.264-based multiview video codec and a rateless Raptor code for recovery from packet losses. One aim of the present work is to suggest a heuristic methodology for modeling the end-to-end rate-distortion (RD) characteristic of such a system. Another aim is to show how to make use of such a model to optimally select the parameters of the video codec and the Raptor code to minimize the overall distortion. Specifically, the proposed syst...
Frequency tunable terahertz metamaterials using broadside coupled split-ring resonators
Ekmekci, E.; Strikwerda, A. C.; Fan, K.; Keiser, G.; Zhang, X.; Sayan, Gönül; Averitt, R. D. (American Physical Society (APS), 2011-05-19)
We present frequency tunable metamaterial designs at terahertz (THz) frequencies using broadside coupled split-ring resonator (BC-SRR) arrays. Frequency tuning, arising from changes in near-field coupling, is obtained by in-plane displacement of the two SRR layers. For electrical excitation, the resonance frequency continuously redshifts as a function of displacement. The maximum frequency shift occurs for vertical displacement of half a unit cell, resulting in a shift of 663 GHz (51% of f(0)). We discuss t...
Frequency-Domain Estimation of a Transfer Matrix of an Uncommon Quadrotor in Hover
Baskin, Mehmet; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal (2022-07-01)
In this article, system identification of an uncommon quadrotor in hover is discussed. Two counter-rotating big rotors on the longitudinal axis and two counter-rotating small tilt rotors on the lateral axis form this quadrotor configuration. First, the nonlinear dynamic model of this vehicle is derived from Newton-Euler formulation. Next, using the approximate linear hover model and the suitable rotor mixing matrix for axes decoupling, simplified attitude dynamics of this quadrotor are obtained. However, th...
Phase sensitive detection of motor fault signatures in the presence of noise
Akin, Bilal; Toliyat, Hamid; Orguner, Umut; Rayner, Mark (2007-05-05)
In this paper, digital signal processor (DSP)-based phase-sensitive motor fault signature detection is presented. The implemented method has a powerful line current noise suppression capability while detecting the fault signatures. Because the line current of inverter driven motors involve low order harmonies, high frequency switching disturbances, and the noise generated by harsh industrial environment; the real-time fault analyses yield erroneous or fluctuating fault signatures. This situation becomes a s...
