Sythesis of zeolite beta for composite membranes
Gür, Nadiye; Baç, Nurcan; Department of Chemical Engineering (2006)
In this work, zeolite Beta was synthesized experimentally in order to be used as filler in fuel cell membranes in order to assess the proton conductivity of composite membranes. Effects of the Si/Al ratio, and synthesis time on yield, relative crystallinity, crystal size, and proton conductivity were investigated. Zeolite Beta with Si/Al ratio between 10 and 30 was synthesized with a batch formulation of 2.2Na2O:1Al2O3:ySiO2:4.6(TEA)2O:tH2O (where TEA≡ tetraethylammonium) at 150°C for 5-15 days of synthesis...
Sytnhesis and characterization of nano zinc borate and its usage as a flame retardant for polymers
Baltacı, Berk; Bayram, Göknur; Department of Chemical Engineering (2010)
The objectives of this study are to synthesize sub-micron sized zinc borate and to use them with other flame retardant additives in poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) based composites. The study can be divided into two parts. In the first part, it was aimed to synthesize sub-micron sized zinc borate (2ZnO.3B2O3.3.5H2O) with the reaction of zinc oxide and boric acid. For this purpose, low molecular weight additives or surfactants were used in the syntheses to prevent the agglomeration and to decrease particl...
Cyclodextrin functionalized poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) electrospun nanofibers for organic vapors waste treatment
Uyar, Tamer; Havelund, Rasmus; Nur, Yusuf; Balan, Abidin; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Besenbacher, Flemming; Kingshott, Peter (2010-12-01)
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) nanofibers containing the inclusion complex forming betacyclodextrin (-CD) were successfully produced by means of electrospinning in order to develop functional nanofibrous webs for organic vapor waste treatment. Electrospinning of uniform PMMA nanofibers containing different loadings of -CD (10%, 25% and 50% (w/w)) was achieved. The surface sensitive spectroscopic techniques; X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS...
Chondrogenic potential of macroporous biodegradable cryogels based on synthetic poly(alpha-amino acids)
Sedlacik, T.; Acar, O. K.; Studenovska, H.; Kotelnikov, I.; Kucka, J.; Konecna, Z.; Zikmund, T.; Kaiser, J.; KÖSE, GAMZE; Rypacek, F. (Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), 2018-01-14)
In this study, the potential of highly porous hydrogels based on biodegradable synthetic poly(alpha-amino acids) to support proliferation and chondrogenesis of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) was investigated. Covalently crosslinked gels with permanent pores were formed under cryogenic conditions by free-radical copolymerization of poly[N-5-(2-hydroxyethyl)-L-glutamine-stat-N-5-(2-methacryloyl-oxy-ethyl)- L-glutamine] (PHEG-MA) with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and N-propargyl methacrylamide (Pr...
Cibacron Blue F3GA-incorporated macroporous poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) affinity membranes for heavy metal removal
Denizli, A; Salih, B; Arica, MY; Kesenci, K; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Piskin, E (1997-01-17)
Macroporous poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), poly(HEMA), membranes were prepared by UV-initiated photo-polymerization of HEMA in the presence of an initiator (azobisisobutyronitrile, AIBN). An affinity dye, i.e., Cibacron Blue F3GA was then incorporated covalently. These affinity membranes with a swelling ratio of 58%, and carrying 10.67 mmol Cibacron Blue F3GA/m(2) membrane were used in the adsorption/desorption of some selected heavy metal ions [i.e., As(III), Cd(II) and Pb(II)] from aqueous media. Very...
