Design Improvement Based on Wear of a Compressor Bearing Using an Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Mode
Duyar, Mustafa; Dursunkaya, Zafer (null; 2006-07-17)
Efficiency and reliability of reciprocating hermetic compressors are of increasing interest, due to stricter energy consumption regulations and customer demands. Optimization of bearing design is particularly important, since one of the main contributors to power loss materializes at the compressor bearings. After prolonged operation, there could be scoring, sometimes scuffing or seizure at the piston pin bearing, which results in a decrease in the efficiency and reliability of the compressor. In this study...

Design constraints for gas-liquid catalytic microreactors
Üner, Necip Berker; Üner, Deniz; Erkoç, Ertuğrul; Department of Chemical Engineering (2014)
Microreactors are a promising class of chemical reactors, which can provide high conversion, selectivity, heat-mass transfer rates and safety in production. They can accommodate gas-liquid or gas-liquid-solid reactions very well. The aim of this study is to present some new mass transfer and kinetics oriented physical phenomena and operation strategies that can emerge in multiphase microreactors, which are usually overlooked in macroscale reactors. The first example is demonstrated experimentally by absorbi...
Design optimization of a 2-d scramjet inlet
Başaran, Mehmet; Leblebici, Engin; Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı (2019-05-14)
A generic 2-D scramjet inlet is analyzed with SU2 software. Accuracy of three turbulence models are compared and a mesh dependence study is performed for the case. Results are compared favorably with experimental data from Idris et al. (2014). The geometry is planned to be optimized by using the adjoint method in the full paper.
