Provenance studies on limestone archaeological artifacts using trace element analysis
Muşkara, Üftade; Ataman, Osman Yavuz; Department of Archaeometry (2007)
Trace element composition of archaeological artifacts is commonly used for provenance studies. Limestone has generally studied by geologists and there are a few researches done by various archaeological sciences. Although it is a common material for buildings and sculpture it is been thought that limestone used had not imported like marbles. Limestone figurines from Datça/Emecik excavations are classified as Cypriote type, which was very popular through 6th century B.C. in the Mediterranean region. Since th...

Compositional investigation and phase identification of 13th century Anatolian Seljuk glazed tiles
Güney, Bilge Alp (Elsevier BV, 2020-01-01)
Glazed tiles from five madrasas built in Anatolia by Seljuks during 13th century were examined using multianalytical techniques to discover production processes, firing temperatures, raw materials and nature of colorants used. Turquoise colored glazes were assessed to be of the type tin-opacified lead-alkali whereas the violet-brown colored glaze was determined to be of the transparent alkali type. Copper and manganese were identified to be responsible for the turquoise and violet-brown color of the glazes,...
Archaeometric analysis on the selected samples of glass artifacts recovered in the excavation of Alanya castle /
Aksoy, Uğur Bülent; Demirci, Şahinde; Department of Archaeometry (2006)
The archaeological and technical questions about ancient glass have lead to various research activities such as identification and sourcing raw materials used in the glass production, investigation of the ways in which colors can be modified according to furnace atmosphere and times of firing. Considering research areas and publications it can be suggested that compositional studies of well-dated samples of ancient glass have disclosed useful information concerning raw materials characteristics and producti...
