OBSERVATION OF EXTENDED VERY HIGH ENERGY EMISSION FROM THE SUPERNOVA REMNANT IC 443 WITH VERITAS
Acciari, V. A.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2009-06-20)
We present evidence that the very high energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) gamma-ray emission coincident with the supernova remnant IC 443 is extended. IC 443 contains one of the best studied sites of supernova remnant/molecular cloud interaction and the pulsar wind nebula CXOU J061705.3+222127, both of which are important targets for VHE observations. VERITAS observed IC 443 for 37.9 hr during 2007 and detected emission above 300 GeV with an excess of 247 events, resulting in a significance of 8.3 standard deviation...
DISCOVERY OF VERY HIGH ENERGY GAMMA-RAY RADIATION FROM THE BL LAC 1ES 0806+524
Acciari, V.; et. al. (IOP Publishing, 2009-01-10)
The high-frequency-peaked BL Lacertae object 1ES 0806+524, at redshift z = 0.138, was observed in the very high energy (VHE) gamma-ray regime by VERITAS between 2006 November and 2008 April. These data encompass the two- and three-telescope commissioning phases, as well as observations with the full four-telescope array. 1ES 0806+524 is detected with a statistical significance of 6.3 standard deviations from 245 excess events. Little or no measurable variability on monthly timescales is found. The photon sp...
Observation of a new particle in the search for the Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
Aad, G.; et. al. (Elsevier BV, 2012-09-17)
A search for the Standard Model Higgs boson in proton-proton collisions with the ATLAS detector at the LHC is presented. The datasets used correspond to integrated luminosities of approximately 4.8 fb(-1) collected at, root s = 7 TeV in 2011 and 5.8 fb(-1) at root s = 8 TeV in 2012. Individual searches in the channels H -> ZZ(()*()) -> 4l, H -> gamma gamma and H -> WW (()*()) -> ev mu v in the 8 TeV data are combined with previously published results of searches for H -> ZZ(()*()), WW(*()), b (b) over bar a...
Discovery of a soft spectral component and transient 22.7 second quasi-periodic oscillations of SAX J2103.5+4545
Inam, SC; Baykal, Altan; Swank, J; Stark, MJ (IOP Publishing, 2004-11-20)
XMM-Newton observed SAX J2103.5+4545 on 2003 January 6, while the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) was also monitoring the source. Using the RXTE Proportional Counter Array data set between 2002 December 3 and 2003 January 29, the spin period and average spin-up rate during the XMM-Newton observations were found to be 354.7940+/-0.0008 s and (7.4+/-0.9)x10(-13) Hz s(-1), respectively. In the power spectrum of the 0.9-11 keV EPIC PN light curve, we found quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) around 0.044 Hz (...
Discovery of the oldest (upper Ladinian to middle Carnian) radiolarian assemblages from the Bornova Flysch Zone in western Turkey: Implications for the evolution of the Neotethyan Izmir-Ankara ocean
TEKİN, UĞUR KAĞAN; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (2007-12-01)
Diverse upper Ladinian to middle Carnian radiolarian faunas have been obtained from different ribbon cherts blocks and tectonic slices of the Izmir-Ankara Suture Complex and the marginal sediments of the Tauride-Anatolide platform within the Bornova Flysch Zone, western Turkey.
