Simplified model for computer-aided analysis of integral bridges
Dicleli, Murat (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2000-08-01)
This paper presents a computer-aided approach for the design of integral-abutment bridges. An analysis procedure and a simplified structure model are proposed for the design of integral-abutment bridges considering their actual behavior and load distribution among their various components. A computer program, for the analysis of integral-abutment bridges, has been developed using the proposed analysis procedure and structure model. The program is capable of analyzing an integral-abutment bridge for each con...
Simplified Numerical Approach for the Prediction of Aerodynamic Forces on Grid Fins
DIKBAS, Erdem; Baran, Özgür Uğraş; Sert, Cüneyt (2018-07-01)
Grid fins are unconventional control devices used for aerodynamic control of various types of missiles. Low hinge moment requirement and superior packaging potential make grid fins attractive alternatives to conventional planar fins. Unlike missiles with planar fins, widely accepted preliminary design tools for missiles with grid fins are not available. As an alternative, aerodynamic forces and moments are obtained through full computational fluid dynamics solutions. However, generating an aerodynamic force...
Detailed simulations of parabolic trough collector for investigating enhancement of heat transfer to absorber tube flow
Uygur, Sinan; Tarı, İlker; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2021-2-12)
In this thesis, a detailed method to simulate heat transfer and fluid flow of parabolic trough solar collectors is presented. An optical model of the considered collector is created with Tonatiuh ray tracing program. The data of ray tracing analysis is exported to MATLAB as a binary file for post-processing. Curve fitting and surface fitting to the data are performed to obtain the heat flux distribution on the absorber tube’s outer surface. User-defined functions (UDFs) for ANSYS Fluent Computational Fluid ...
Detailed Noise Analysis of Current-to-Frequency Converters for Precision Analog Accelerometers
Nuzumlali, Omer Lutfi (2016-04-14)
This paper presents a detailed noise analysis of current-to-frequency converters (CFC) for current output precision analog accelerometers. In the proposed method, time domain approach is used instead of frequency domain approach and the standard deviation of the velocity error after a fixed period of time is calculated. The noise analysis demonstrates that the error caused by voltage noises does not increase with time. However, the standard deviation of the error due to the feedback current noise increases ...
Improved effective damping equation for equivalent linear analysis of seismic-isolated bridges
Dicleli, Murat (null; 2010-07-25)
In this paper, an improved effective damping (ED) equation is proposed to obtain more reasonable estimates of the actual nonlinear response of seismic-isolated bridges (SIB) using equivalent linear (EL) analysis procedure. For this purpose, first, the EL analysis results using AASHTO's ED equation is evaluated. The effect of several parameters such as substructure stiffness, isolator and ground motion properties are considered in the evaluation. It is found that AASHTO's ED equation should incorporate the e...
