Impact damage sensing of multiscale composites through epoxy matrix containing carbon nanotubes
Arronche, Luciana; La Saponara, Valeria; Yesil, Sertan; Bayram, Göknur (2013-06-05)
Carbon nanotubes are used to provide increased electrical conductivity for polymer matrix materials, thus offering a method to monitor the structure's health. This work investigates the effect of impact damage on the electrical properties of multiscale composite samples, prepared with woven fiberglass reinforcement and epoxy resin modified with as-received multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). Moreover, this study addresses potential bias from manufacturing, and investigates the effectiveness of resistanc...
Impact assessment of water jets from flip buckets /
Yavuz, Cüneyt; Aydın, İsmail; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
A jet issued from flip bucket of spillway of a dam interacts with the surrounding air and develops into an aerated turbulent jet. Depending on the relative jet thickness, the fall height and the level of turbulence, the jet may be dispersed in air forming an aerated water body which will eventually plunge into the river surface at sufficiently far downstream of the flip bucket. If not aerated, the jet may have a larger impact on the river bed causing severe scour damage. Water cushion and dispersion of jet ...
Kinetic analysis of DSC and thermogravimetric data on combustion of lignite
Kök, Mustafa Verşan (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1996-06-01)
Thermal analysis increasingly being used to obtain kinetic data relating to sample decomposition. This work involves a comparative study of several methods used to analyse DSC and TG/DTG data obtained on the oxidation of Beypazari lignite. A general computer program was developed and the methods are compared with regard to their accuracy and the ease of interpretation of the kinetics of thermal decomposition. For this study, the ratio method was regarded as the preferred method, because it permits the estim...
