In this study, a two-echelon inventory system with one-for-one replenishments for a single type of recoverable item is considered. The inventory is reviewed continuously while demand occurs with exponential failure rates at the lower echelon. The replenishments for the backordering bases are supplied either from the central depot or from a neighboring base via lateral transshipments. The effects of incorporating a new inventory control variable (hold back level, H) on the emergency lateral transshipments that limits the extent of the lateral supply between IIIbases are investigated. Given the stock levels of the locations and the limiting parameter for the emergency lateral transshipments (ELTs) as the decision variables, two Markov models are used to determine the fractions of backorder situations and the lateral transshipments at the bases by an approximate decomposition scheme. A numerical example is provided in order to observe the effects of the proposed method.

A two-echelon inventory model with stock-dependent demand and variable holding cost for deteriorating items
Pervin, Magfura; null, null; Kumar Roy, Sankar; Wilhelm Weber, Gerhard (American Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), 2017)
In this study, we develop an inventory model for deteriorating items with stock dependent demand rate. Shortages are allowed to this model and when stock on hand is zero, then the retailer offers a price discount to customers who are willing to back-order their demands. Here, the supplier as well as the retailer adopt the trade credit policy for their customers in order to promote the market competition. The retailer can earn revenue and interest after the customer pays for the amount of purchasing cost to ...
Some findings on joint replenishment of items with stochastic demand and backordering
Gök, Yasemin; Şatir, Ahmet; Goyal, Suresh (Elsevier BV, 1988-1)
Some findings on joint replenishment of items with stochastic demand and backordering are presented. The specific problem dealt with is the stock control of the spare parts in a petroleum company. Sensitivity analysis, analysis of variance and multiple regression analysis are carried out to study the effect of various factors on the cost savings achieved by joint replenishment policy over independent replenishment policy. Major findings of the study are discussed in conjunction with the results of a previou...
Optimal allocation policies in a two-echelon inventory problem with fixed shipment costs
Gullu, R; Erkip, N (1996-12-01)
This study investigates the stock allocation problems in a two-echelon distribution system which consists of a central warehouse and two identical retailers. We restrict our attention to two-period order cycles where the period lengths are allowed to be different. Shipments from the supplier to the warehouse arrive at the beginning of the order cycle (i.e. at the beginning of the first period). In each order cycle, there are two shipment opportunities from the warehouse to the retailers: at the beginning of...
The Impact of Modeling on Robust Inventory Management Under Demand Uncertainty
Solyali, Oguz; Cordeau, Jean-Francois; Laporte, Gilbert (2016-04-01)
This study considers a basic inventory management problem with nonzero fixed order costs under interval demand uncertainty. The existing robust formulations obtained by applying well-known robust optimization methodologies become computationally intractable for large problem instances due to the presence of binary variables. This study resolves this intractability issue by proposing a new robust formulation that is shown to be solvable in polynomial time when the initial inventory is zero or negative. Becau...
Analysis of a deterministic demand production/inventory system under nonstationary supply uncertainty
Gullu, R; Onol, E; Erkip, N (Informa UK Limited, 1997-08-01)
In this article we investigate a periodic review inventory model under deterministic dynamic demand and supply unavailability. In a given period, supply is either available or completely unavailable with given probabilities. Supply unavailability probabilities are nonstationary over time. We show the optimality of an order-up-to level policy, and obtain a newsboy-like formula that determines the optimal order-up-to levels. Our formula would provide guidence as to the appropriate amount of inventory to stock...
