Geochemical evaluation and conceptual modeling of Edremit geothermal field
Avşar, Özgür; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan; Parlaktuna, Mahmut; Department of Geological Engineering (2011)
Edremit geothermal field with 42-62 °C discharge temperatures is utilized for space heating. Alternation of permeable and impermeable units created two superimposed aquifers in the area: upper unconfined and lower confined. Water samples from 21 (hot, warm, cold) wells were taken in this study. 8 of these wells penetrate the deeper confined, while 13 penetrate the shallower unconfined aquifer. Geochemical analysis revealed Na+K–SO4 nature for the hot (>40°C), Ca–HCO3 nature for the cold (<30°C) and Ca–SO4 n...

Geotechnical characteristics and empirical geo-engineering relations of the South Pars Zone marls, Iran
Azarafza, Mohammad; Ghazifard, Akbar; Akgün, Haluk; Asghari-Kaljahi, Ebrahim (2019-12-10)
This paper evaluates the geotechnical and geo-engineering properties of the South Pars Zone (SPZ) marls in Assalouyeh, Iran. These manly beds mostly belong to the Aghajari and Mishan formations which entail the gray, cream, black, green, dark red and pink types. Marls can be observed as rock (soft rock) or soil. Marlstone outcrops show a relatively rapid change to soils in the presence of weathering. To geotechnically characterise the marls, field and laboratory experiments such as particle-size distributio...
Geochemical monitoring of the seismic activities and noble gas characterization of the geothermal fields along the eastern segment of the büyük menderes graben
Süer, Selin; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan; Department of Geological Engineering (2010)
This study aims the real-time monitoring of gases (CO2, N2, O2, H2, H2S, CH4, He, Ar) discharging from natural pools in the Tekke Hamam geothermal field (Denizli) in addition to the geochemical characterization of the field along with the Kızıldere geothermal field, both located at the eastern segment of the Büyük Menderes Graben. The continuous gas monitoring experiment (November 2007-October 2008) conducted in the Tekke Hamam geothermal field has revealed temporal variations in the gas compositions, gas f...
GEOCHEMICAL CHARACTER OF THE HYDROTHERMAL ALTERATION ZONES AROUND THE MADENKOY-SIIRT MASSIVE SULFIDE DEPOSIT AND IMPLICATIONS FOR GEOCHEMICAL-EXPLORATION
ERLER, A (Elsevier BV, 1989-04-01)
The Madenkoy-Siir region lies in southeastern Anatolia, Turkey to the northeast of Siirt. The study area is in the southeastern Anatolian Thrust Belt, which forms the boundary between the Border Folds on the northern edge of the Arabian plate and the Taurids. In the region, limestones of the Midyat Group of Eocene-Miocene age and alternating marls and sandstones of the Lice Formation of Early-Middle Miocene age are the autochthonous units. Three thrust slices were emplaced over the autochthonous units durin...
