The association of like-charged ions in tunable protic pyrazolium salts
Özdemir, Melek; Şahin, Onur (2021-10-15)
The association of like-charged ions is an elusive concept due to the lack of supporting experimental evidence. In the present work, 3,5-dimethyl-1-(p-substitutedphenyl)pyrazolium hexafluorophosphate (p-Cl (2a), p-Br (2b), p-OCH3 (2c)) tunable protic pyrazolium salts have been synthesized and characterized. The association of like-charged ions in the synthesized salts was observed, as evidenced by X-ray structure analysis of single crystals. The effect of the p-substituent on the association of like-charged...
The enantioselective synthesis of 2-indolyl-1-nitro derivatives and BODIPY dyes in the presence of chiral bifunctional squaramide organocatalysts
Dündar, Esra; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2022-8)
In our research group, chiral bifunctional squaramides with different basic units have been synthesized and evaluated in various asymmetric reactions. To test the catalytic activity of organocatalysts, Friedel-Crafts alkylation of indoles with nitroolefins was selected as a model reaction in the first part of the study. 19 different 2-indolyl-1-nitro derivatives were synthesized with up to >99% ee in the presence of sterically encumbered tert-butyl substituted squaramide/quinine. Besides, 2-adamantyl squara...
The synthesis of chiral β-naphthyl-β-sulfanyl ketones via enantioselective sulfa-Michael reaction in the presence of a bifunctional cinchona/sulfonamide organocatalyst
Tözendemir, Deniz; Tanyeli, Cihangir (2021-02-01)
Cinchona alkaloid-derived organocatalysts are widely employed in various asymmetric transformations, yielding products with high enantiopurity. In this respect, a bifunctional quinine-derived sulfonamide organocatalyst was developed to catalyze the asymmetric sulfa-Michael reaction of naphthalene-1-thiol withtrans-chalcone derivatives. The target sulfa-Michael adducts were obtained with up to 96% ee under mild conditions and with a low (1 mol %) catalyst loading. Selected enantiomerically enriched sulfa-Mic...
The biodegradation of benzene, toluene and phenol in a two-phase system
Hamed, TA; Bayraktar, E; Mehmetoglu, U; Mehmetoglu, T (Elsevier BV, 2004-07-15)
A two-phase aqueous-organic system was used to degrade benzene, toluene and phenol, individually and as mixture by Pseudomonas putida F1 (ATCC 700007). In the first stage of the work, the effect of the phase ratio (0-1, v/v) and the agitation rate (150 and 200 rpm) on the biodegradation process was investigated in an orbital shaker using 2-undecanone as the solvent and the most suitable phase ratio and agitation rate were found to be 0.0625 (v/v) and 200 rpm, respectively. P. putida F1 was added into the aq...
