Inactivation of Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes in milk and cream of chicken soup by high hydrostatic pressure and bacteriocins
Alpas, Hami (2002-06-01)
By the application of HHP; 5.50 and 5.70 log cycle reduction was obtained for S. aureus 485, in milk and cream of chicken soup samples, respectively. Storage of HHP treated milk samples for 24 h at 4degreesC gave positive result for S. aureus 765 where no growth was observed for L. monocytogenes strains. Incubation of food samples for an additional 48 h at 37degreesC showed growth of L. monocytogenes strains as S. aureus strains. When a bacteriocin-based biopreservative (BP1) was combined with pressurizatio...
Development of Non-Invasive and Biocompatible Thin Film Micro-Extraction Contact Lens Type Devices Compatible for In Vivo Metabolomics Investigations from Eye Surface
Nalbant, Atakan Arda; Boyacı, Ezel (2019-09-01)
Solid phase microextraction (SPME), is a sampling and samp- le preparation technique in which the extraction of analytes is based on an equilibrium established between a sample and ext- ractive phase coated on a tip of a fiber. Thin film microextraction (TFME) which is a type of SPME provides high analytical sen- sitivity in environmental and biological samples and has gained interest in areas where no other technique can provide solutions. In this study, the aim was to develop biocompatible and flexib-...
Surface Recombination Noise in InAs/GaSb Superlattice Photodiodes
Tansel, Tunay; Kutluer, Kutlu; Muti, Abdullah; Salihoglu, Omer; Aydinli, Atila; Turan, Raşit (2013-03-01)
The standard Schottky noise approach alone is not sufficient to describe the noise mechanism in an InAs/GaSb superlattice photodetector at reverse negative bias. The additional noise identified appears at surface activation energies below 60 meV and is inversely proportional to the reverse bias. In order to satisfactorily explain the experimental data, we hereby propose the existence of a surface recombination noise that is a function of both the frequency and bias. The calculated noise characteristics inde...
3D Data Processing for Enhancement of Face Scanner Data
BOZKURT, Nesli; Halıcı, Uğur; ULUSOY PARNAS, İLKAY; AKAGUNDUZ, Erdem (2009-11-11)
The data acquired by 3D face scanners have distortions such as spikes, holes and noise. Enhancement of 3D face data by removing these distortions while keeping the face features is important for the applications using these data. In this study, thresholding is used for removing spikes, thresholding together with face symmetry, is used for hole filling and bilateral filtering is used for smoothing and satisfactory results are obtained on FRGC 3D face data.
Evaluation of high pressure pretreatment for enhancing the drying rates of carrot, apple, and green bean
YÜCEL, UMUT; Alpas, Hami; Bayındırlı, Alev (2010-05-01)
Preservation of fresh produce by drying dates back to ancient times and is still an indispensible technique. Conventional drying Of fruits and vegetables is often accompanied by changes in color, texture, and taste. Suitable pretreatments can improve the drying process by reducing the drying time, yielding higher-quality products, and energy savings. In this Study, two varieties of apples, Amasya and red delicious, green beans and carrots were pretreated with high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) at different pre...
