Usage of solar-spouted bed drier in the drying of parboiled wheat, corn and pea
Tunaboyu, Ferihan; Şahin, Serpil; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Department of Food Engineering (2010)
The main objective of this study was the application of solar energy for drying of parboiled wheat, corn and pea. Drying experiments were performed under open sun and also in the solar-spouted bed drier in which air heated by solar energy was used. The effects of these drying methods on drying rate and quality parameters were investigated for drying of parboiled wheat, corn and pea. The quality parameters evaluated were color, shrinkage, bulk density, apparent density, bulk and internal porosity, microstruc...
A location-distribution application for a beer company
Köksalan, Murat; Süral, Haldun; Kırca, Ömer (1995-01-05)
In this paper we discuss an application for the location-distribution problem of beer breweries of a company. We develop a mixed integer programming model. We solve the model under a number of different scenarios and present the results. We discuss various phases of the project and explain how we solved some of the encountered difficulties. After the completion of the project the company decided to locate a new brewery at the site we suggested and they intend to implement some other results of the project i...
The effect of environmental conditions on the distribution of eggs and larvae of anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus L.) in the Black Sea
Kıdeyş, Ahmet Erkan; Bingel, Ferit; Niermann, Ulrich (1999-12-01)
Recent events in the Black Sea have had a severe impact on all compartments of the ecosystem, including ichthyoplankton. The distribution of eggs and larvae of the anchovy, the major commercial fish species, was investigated in relation to ambient conditions in the southern Black Sea during July 1992, August 1993, and June-July 1996. Average highest egg and larva numbers were observed in June-July 1996, Ichthyoplankton distribution was closely connected with the hydrography. Besides surface temperature and ...
THE ROLE OF COMMUNITY ENERGY PLANNING IN DECENTRALIZATION POLICIES OF TURKEY
Erkan, Esengül; Senol Balaban, Meltem; Department of Urban Policy Planning and Local Governments (2022-1-27)
The thesis examines the applications of renewable energy towards community energy as an urban policy in the local governments of Turkey. A comprehensive study was conducted on the energy production and consumption from renewable energy in the world and in Turkey, and the increase in global renewable energy activities in recent years was discussed together with issues such as climate crisis and localization. In the discussions on political, administrative, and financial decentralization and privatization pol...
In vivo indenter experiments on soft biological tissues for identification of material models and corresponding parameters
Petekkaya, Ali Tolga; Tönük, Ergin; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2008)
Soft biological tissues, being live and due to their physiological structures, display considerably complex mechanical behaviors. For a better understanding and use in various applications, first study to be carried out is the tests made particularly as in vivo. An indenter test device developed for this purpose in the METU, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanics Laboratory is operational. In this study, in order to carry out precise and dependable tests, initially, various tests and improvement...
