Design and analysis of energy saving buildings using the software energy plus
Birol, Kemal Özgen; Okutucu Özyurt, Hanife Tuba; Oskay, Rüknettin; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2012)
Being the major energy consumer of electricity and natural gas, buildings consume more than 70% of electricity and 30% of natural gas. On the way to green buildings and zero energy buildings, investigation and improvement of energy efficiency of the buildings will result in significant reductions in energy demands and CO2 emissions; make cost savings and improve thermal comfort as well. Key steps of a successful green, energy efficient building can be summarized as whole building design, site design, buildi...
The Impact of double skin facades on thermal performance of buildings
Daneshkadeh, Samira; Elias Özkan, Soofia Tahira; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2013)
Human comfort and satisfaction are of utmost importance that should be considered in design of a buildings. Providing occupants with high level of comfort is notably affected by thermal performance of building. In the case of invalid thermal behavior, health, productivity and performance of occupants will be affected negatively. Therefore, in this study it is intended to find out that if double skin facades are fundamental factors in thermal performance of the buildings or not. The study will concentrate on...
Modeling of Multi Open Phase Fault Condition of Multi-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors
Fei, Marco; Zanasi, Roberto (2011-09-10)
This paper deals with the modeling of multi-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors under multi open phase fault condition. The presented model is suitable for generic number of phases, generic shape of the rotor flux and generic number of open circuit faults. The motor model in fault condition can be used for faults occurring on both adjacent and not adjacent phases. The model can be very useful both for simulation and implementation of fault-tolerant control strategies.
Assessing the airtightness performance of container-like buildings in relation to its effect on energy efficiency
Bekboliev, Mirbek; Tanyer, Ali Murat; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2015)
This study analyzes the effect of airtightness on the energy efficiency of single and adjacent containerized buildings, before and after refurbishment. It further gives an overview of air leakage problems found in the sample of prefabricated buildings manufactured and located in Turkey. The air leakage of standard container-like building depends on a number of factors like the age of the building, manufacturing quality and quality of assembly implementation. The airtightness of four typical containerized bu...
