Using Criticalities as a Heuristic for Answer Set Programming
SABUNCU, ORKUNT; Alpaslan, Ferda Nur; AKMAN, VAROL (2004-01-08)
Answer Set Programming is a new paradigm based on logic programming. The main component of answer set programming is a system that finds the answer sets of logic programs. During the computation of an answer set, systems are faced with choice points where they have to select a literal and assign it a truth value. Generally, systems utilize some heuristics to choose new literals at the choice points. The heuristic used is one of the key factors for the performance of the system. A new heuristic for answer s...
Social argumentation in online synchronous communication
Alagoz, Esra (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2013-12-01)
The ability to argue well is a valuable skill for students in both formal and informal learning environments. While many studies have explored the argumentative practices in formal environments and some researchers have developed tools to enhance the argumentative skills, the social argumentation that is occurring in informal spaces has yet to be broadly investigated. The challenges associated with observing and capturing the interactions in authentic settings can be identified as the main reasons for this ...
An Object-oriented framework for functional mock-up interface co-simulation
Aslan, Memduha; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S.; Durak, Umut; Department of Computer Engineering (2016)
Integration of subsystem or component models in a simulation environment is a crucial task in system development. Variation in model interfaces due to the use of a variety of modeling tools from different vendors complicates this task. Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) is a standard that lays out a tool-independent interface for dynamic system models. In practice, the developers of FMI-compliant models, known as Functional Mockup Units (FMUs), need guidance. In this thesis, an object-oriented framework for ...
Automatic Definition of Optimal Default Parameters of Models: Image Matting Application
Ravve, Elena V.; Volkovich, Zeev; Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm (2015-09-24)
As a general rule, each user must provide the tool applied with particular values of its input parameters. An inexperienced user may hardly figure out their values and the tool developer must define the default values in order to help her/him. We present an approach to solve the problem with the help of multi-criteria optimization that is new in this formulation. We demonstrate our approach in closer details using an example from the automatic definition of optimal default parameters for real-time merging o...
Automatic reconstruction of broken 3-D surface objects
Üçoluk, Göktürk; Toroslu, İsmail Hakkı (Elsevier BV, 1999-08-01)
The problem of reconstruction of broken surface objects embedded in 3-D space is handled. A coordinate independent representation for the crack curves is developed. A new robust matching algorithm is proposed which serves for finding matching pieces even when some brittle pieces are missing. A prototype system having an X-based GUI has been developed. This system generates artifical wire-frame data of broken pieces (with some noise) for a pot-shaped 3-D object and then recombines it using the proposed algor...
