Functional Mesh Model with Temporal Measurements for Brain Decoding
Onal, Itir; Ozay, Mete; Yarman Vural, Fatoş Tunay (2015-08-29)
We propose a method called Functional Mesh Model with Temporal Measurements (FMM-TM) to estimate a functional relationship among voxels using temporal data, and employ these relationships for brain decoding. For each sample, we measure Blood Oxygenation Level Dependent (BOLD) responses from each voxel, and construct a functional mesh around each voxel (called seed voxel) with its nearest neighbors selected using distance metrics namely Pearson correlation, cosine similarity and Euclidean distance. Then, we ...
Transformation of Turkish Islamism and the Rise of the Justice and Development Party
Şen, Mustafa (2010-01-01)
Deviating from the mainstream analyses of the AKP that see the rise of AKP to power as a result of the struggle between ocentero and operiphery,o this study is an attempt to analyze and understand the modalities of inclusion and accommodation of Turkish Islamism into the sociopolitical structure of Turkey. Therefore, it specially focuses on three interwoven processes: the articulation of Turkish Islamism with the Turkish Islamic synthesis; permanent enlargement of the religious field; and articulation betwe...
A comparative case study on school management practices in the United States and Turkey
Silman, Fatoş; Şimşek, Hasan; Department of Educational Sciences (2005)
This study aimed to comparatively examine school management practices in the US and Turkey in light of the two distinct administrative paradigms:Anglo-Saxon and Napoleonic traditions. In this study, a comparative case study method was used. The study was conducted in a basic education school (grades 1-8) in Ankara, Turkey, and in an elementary school (K-5) in Madison, the capital city of the state of Wisconsn, US. The sample contained 13 teachers and 4 administrators in the Turkish case, and 10 teachers and...
A Critique of the histories of European and Ottoman States: "from modernization revisionism" and "State tradition" towards an alternative reading
Hasdemir, A. Seven; Aytekin, Erden Attila; Department of Political Science and Public Administration (2011)
In this thesis two “western modern state” and three Ottoman “state tradition” scholars (Gianfranco Poggi, Christopher Pierson, Şerif Mardin, Metin Heper and Çağlar Keyder) are elaborated in the way how they write the the history for their theorization attempts. The specially emphasized processes in these histories are asserted to be reconstructed as the sources of an “idealized”-type that is assumed to be fulfilled by “the West” and should also be followed by “the rest”. The description of this form of a st...
Recent results on Bayesian Cramér-Rao bounds for jump Markov systems
Fritsche, Carsten; Orguner, Umut; Svensson, Lennart; Gustafsson, Fredrik (2016-07-08)
In this paper, recent results on the evaluation of the Bayesian Cramer-Rao bound for jump Markov systems are presented. In particular, previous work is extended to jump Markov systems where the discrete mode variable enters into both the process and measurement equation, as well as where it enters exclusively into the measurement equation. Recursive approximations are derived with finite memory requirements as well as algorithms for checking the validity of these approximations are established. The tightnes...
