Design and implementation of A MEMS based gravimetric detector for cytometry applications
Bayraktar, Ekrem; Bayraktar, Ekrem; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2010)
This thesis reports design and implementation of a MEMS based gravimetric resonator for cytometry applications. There are mainly two objectives of this thesis; to enable in-flow analysis and to perform closed loop operation that does not require any additional processing or equipment. A novel MEMS based resonator with in-flow capabilities is proposed for detection of agents inside micro channels. High resolution of mass detection inside micro channels is planned to be succeeded with lateral motion in the mi...
The relationship among reasoning ability, gender and students' understanding of diffusion and osmosis
Korkmaz, Oğuz; Öztekin, Ceren; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2005)
This study investigated the 9th grade students' achievement regarding diffusion and osmosis in relation to reasoning ability, prior knowledge and gender. A total of 397 ninth grade students participated in the study. The Test of logical thinking (TOLT) and the Diffusion and Osmosis Diagnostic Test (DODT) were administered to determine students' reasoning ability and achievement in diffusion and osmosis, respectively. DODT results showed that the range of correct answers for the first tier was 41 % to 91%. W...
Effects of installation on the cyclic axial behaviour of suction buckets in sandy soils
Taşan, Hacı Ercan; Yilmaz, S. Alp (Elsevier BV, 2019-10-01)
Suction buckets differ with their easy and cost-efficient installation technique from other foundation types for offshore wind turbines. For successful completion of their installation process, suction is essential, but the imposed seepage leads to the changes in states of the soil in and around the bucket. Especially, a loosening of soil inside the bucket affects the load carrying behaviour of bucket subjected to repetitive loading resulting from environmental conditions. In this study, the behaviour of bu...
Numerical modeling of re-suspension and transport of fine sediments in coastal waters
Karadoğan, Erol; Özhan, Erdal; Department of Civil Engineering (2004)
In this thesis, the theory of three dimensional numerical modeling of transport and re-suspension of fine sediments is studied and a computer program is develped for simulation of the three dimensional suspended sediment transport. The computer program solves the three dimensional advection-diffusion equation simultaneously with a computer program prepared earlier for the simulation of three dimensional current systems. This computer program computes the velocity vectors, eddy viscosities and water surface ...
Transcriptional engineering of pichia pastoris alcohol dehydrogenase 2 and alcohol oxidase 1 promoters for recombinant protein production
Gündüz Ergün, Burcu; Çalık, Pınar; Mattanovich, Diethard; Department of Biotechnology (2018)
The aim of the Ph.D. thesis was designing novel engineered promoter variants (NEPVs) to obtain strong ethanol regulated promoters for improved recombinant protein (r-protein) production, and to clarify the role of certain transcription factors (TFs) on the regulation of P. pastoris PADH2 and PAOX1. Promoter architecture of PADH2 was redesigned by nucleosome optimization and modification of transcription factor binding sites and, the induction mechanism of PAOX1 was changed to ethanol as sole carbon and ener...
