Hot Cracking Susceptibility of Twin Roll Cast Al-Mg Alloy Welds
Tirkes, Sueha; Batıgün, Caner; Ankara, Alpay (2010-01-01)
The hot cracking susceptibility of two different Al-Mg alloys during welding at various applied strains was investigated. At each strain value, the amount of hot cracking susceptibility increased with increasing magnesium content. Thermal analysis results verified that hot cracking susceptibility indeed call be related to the solidification range. As suggested in the solidification range approach, the results of the present Study confirm that the extent of solidification and liquation cracking depend oil th...
Hot dynamic consolidation of aifevsi alloy powders
Kotan, Şevkiye Ezgi; Kalkanlı, Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
The experimental alloy powders of 1% Mg treated Al-8Fe-1.8V-8Si were obtained by air atomization. The screen analysis of powders was made by sieves with meshes ranging from +90æm, +63æm, +53æm, +45æm, +38æm to -38æm. Unreinforced and TiC particulate reinforced specimens were produced by hot dynamic consolidation which is known as hot swaging. Powders were canned into pure aluminium tubes of about 10cm length and 2.2cm diameter. Single action and double action cold pressing were applied to some of the specim...
Flame retardancy of polyamide compounds and micro/nano composites
Gündüz, Hüseyin Özgür; Kaynak, Cevdet; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2009)
In the first part of this dissertation, glass fiber reinforced/unreinforced polyamide 6 (PA6) and polyamide 66 (PA66) were compounded with three different flame retardants, which were melamine cyanurate, red phosphorus and brominated epoxy with antimony trioxide, by using an industrial scale twin screw extruder. Then, to investigate flame retardancy of these specimens, UL-94, Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI) and Mass Loss Cone Calorimeter (MLC) tests were carried out. In addition to flammability tests, thermogra...
Thermal degradation of polythiophene-natural rubber and polythiophene-synthetic rubber conducting polymer composites
Hacaloğlu, Jale; Akbulut, Ural; Toppare, Levent Kamil (1997-01-01)
Thermal degradation of conducting polymer composites of polythiophene and rubbers was studied by direct and indirect pyrolysis mass spectrometry techniques. The samples were prepared by electrooxidation of polythiophene using natural rubber or synthetic rubber as the insulating matrix. Presence of decomposition products which were not observed during pyrolysis of pure polythiophene and rubbers, and disappearance of rubber-based pyrolysis mass peaks, together with changes in thermal stability and behaviour, ...
