Investigation of combustion kinetics of treated and untreated waste wood samples with thermogravimetric analysis
Yorulmaz, Sema Yurdakul; Atımtay, Aysel (2009-07-01)
In the present study, combustion mechanisms, thermal kinetics, and phases of combustion were investigated for waste wood samples (untreated pine and treated MDF, plywood and particleboard). Waste wood samples were combusted in air at 10, 20 and 30 degrees C/min heating rates in TGA. The results of TG analysis have shown that thermal decomposition of treated samples takes place at lower temperatures as compared to the untreated pine sample because of the catalyzing effects of the chemicals in the samples. Th...
Investigation of co-combustion characteristics of low quality lignite coals and biomass with thermogravimetric analysis
Varol, Murat; Atımtay, Aysel; Bay, B.; Olgun, H. (2010-10-20)
In this study, combustion and co-combustion characteristics of three biomass fuels and three Turkish lignite coals were investigated by using a thermo gravimetric analyzer. There are just a few studies investigating the co-combustion characteristics of coal and biomass, and the synergistic effect of their various combinations on the peak temperatures and burnout times.
Study of rubble mound and caisson type breakwaters by experimental and numerical modelling under extreme waves
Doğan, Gözde Güney; Özyurt Tarakcıoğlu, Gülizar; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
Many coastal structures are designed without considering loads of long waves or extreme waves although they are constructed in areas prone to encounter these waves. Performance of two different types of coastal structures, rubble mound and caisson type breakwaters, is investigated under specified extreme wave conditions. In the first part of the study, laboratory experiments are conducted to observe the damage and failure phenomenon of the two types of breakwaters simultaneously which were designed accordin...

Study of vibrational modes in CuxAg1-xIn5S8 mixed crystals by infrared reflection measurements
Hasanlı, Nızamı (2018-04-01)
Infrared reflection spectra of CuxAg1-xIn5S8 mixed crystals, grown by Bridgman method, were studied in the wide frequency range of 50-2000 cm(-1). All four infrared-active modes were detected, which are in full agreement with the prediction of group-theoretical analysis. Real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function, refractive index and the energy losses function were evaluated from reflectivity measurements. The frequencies of TO and LO modes and oscillator strengths were also determined. The bands ...
