Kinet Höyük with its 3.3 ha size, is multi-period site located on the İskenderun Gulf of Eastern Cilicia. The research subject is: Middle ronze II (1800-1600 .C) burnt uilding complex located in the east terrace of the mound. The part of the building that has been exposed is representing the general characteristics of Levantine style monumental architecture of MBII with its 50 m exposure. The primary goal of the thesis is to understand the function of this specific building in its local context and to compare the building with similar building in Anatolia, Syria and the Levant to see the cultural interaction that is visible in the architectural evidence. Thje widely accepted conventions for the mound size and the settlement activity patterns are re-examined in the final chapter on the basis of the contradictory relationship between the size of the settlement and the monumental architecture at Kinet Höyük.

The Denizli graben-horst system and the eastern limit of western Anatolian continental extension: basin fill, structure, deformational mode, throw amount and episodic evolutionary history, SW Turkey
Kocyigit, A (Informa UK Limited, 2005-05-01)
The Denizli graben-horst system (DGHS) is located at the eastern-southeastern converging tips of three well-identified major grabens, the Gediz, the Kucuk Menderes and the Buyuk Menderes grabens, in the west Anatolian extensional province. It forms a structural link between these grabens and the other three NE-NW-trending grabens-the Civril, the Acigol and the Burdur grabens-compri sing the western limb of the Isparta Angle. Therefore, the DGHS has a critical role in the evolutionary history of continental ...
Seismoturbidites in the Gulf of Aqaba during the past 500 years
Bektaş, Zeynep; Avşar, Ulaş (2019-04-12)
The Gulf of Aqaba, 180 km-long and approximately 15 km-wide, is located at the southernmost part of the left-lateral strike slip Dead Sea Fault (DSF). It is characterized by three pull-apart basins accommodating trans-tensional motion. Although paleoseismic data about the past devastating earthquakes on-shore DSF are available, our knowledge remains limited in the Gulf of Aqaba region. To improve our knowledge on the location and geometry of active faults in the region, its overall tectonics and its seismic...
Metamorphic imprint of ridge subduction on the Neo-Tethyan ophiolites from the Saka Unit (Central Pontides, northern Turkey)
Frassi, Chiara; Rebay, Gisella; Marroni, Michele; Sayıt, Kaan; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Ellero, Alessandro; Ottria, Giuseppe; Pandolfi, Luca (2020-09-01)
The Intra-Pontide suture zone is the northernmost ophiolite suture zone exposed in the Anatolian peninsula. It consists of several variably deformed and metamorphosed tectonic units derived from the Neo-Tethyan IntraPontide oceanic (IPO) basin, and its continental margins that are currently represented by the Istanbul Zonguldak and the Sakarya terranes. Recent data suggests that the IPO was a wide supra-subduction oceanic basin whose closure began in the uppermost Early Jurassic by a north dipping intra-oce...
Inquiry into the underwater structures : architectural approaches to design considerations
Koyuncu, Dilşad; Ünay, Ali İhsan; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2007)
Underwater has always been attractive and curiosity for human beings. Exploring, employing and being part of underwater has been a challenge for them at all times. The first underwater structures were products of engineering studies and have been used for fields of scientific researches and observations, military purposes and obtaining energy for centuries. However, underwater is a new medium for human for accommodation and entertainment purposes; and correspondingly new subject which is worth to study for ...
The Tarakli Flysch in the Boyali area (Sakarya Terrane, northern Turkey): Implications for the tectonic history of the IntraPontide suture zone
Catanzariti, Rita; Ellero, Alessandro; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal; Marroni, Michele; Ottria, Giuseppe; Pandolfi, Luca (2013-11-01)
In the Boyali area, northern Turkey, the tectonic units of the Istanbul-Zonguldak Terrane and the IntraPontide suture zone are thrust over the deposits at the top of the Sakarya Terrane, known as Tarakli Flysch. It consists of Early Maastrichtian-Middle Paleocene turbidite and mass-gravity deposits, whose source mainly corresponds to the Istanbul-Zonguldak Terrane, and, with a lesser extent, to the IntraPontide suture zone. These deposits were sedimented in a foredeep basin developed during the convergence ...
