Effects of microwave heating on electrospinning of carob bean flour based nanofibers
Uygun, Eylül; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Department of Food Engineering (2019)
In addition to time and energy saving advantages, microwave heating has some effects on functional properties of flours, especially starch and protein compounds. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of microwave pretreatment on physicochemical characteristics of carob flour and rice starch-based nanofibers produced by electrospinning. In addition, the effects of carob flour concentration (3%, 5% w/v) and rice starch addition (0.5% w/v) on nanofiber production were studied. Solutions were heate...
Effects of Graphene Transfer and Thermal Annealing on Anticorrosive Properties of Stainless Steel
Oh, Jeong Hyeon; Han, Sangmok; Kim, Tae-Yoon; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah; Kim, Soo Young (2017-11-01)
Stainless steel (STS) films were annealed in a thermal quartz tube and covered with graphene to improve their anticorrosive properties. Graphene was synthesized via the chemical vapor deposition method and transferred onto the surface of the STS film by the layer-by-layer approach. The structure of the STS film changed from alpha-Fe to gamma-Fe after annealing at 700 C for 1 h, resulting in an increase of 82.72% in the inhibition efficiency. However, one-layer graphene acted as a conductive pathway and ther...
Effects of membrane electrode assembly components on proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance
Bayrakceken, Ayse; Erkan, Serdar; Turker, Lemi; Eroğlu, İnci (Elsevier BV, 2008-01-01)
The objective of this study is to determine the effects of various factors on the performance of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. These factors are membrane thickness, hot-pressing conditions of the gas diffusion layer (GDL) either onto the membrane or membrane electrode assembly (MEA) and Teflon:carbon ratio in the GDL on PEM fuel cell performance. Homemade five-layer and commercial three-layer MEAs were used in the experiments. Nafion (R) 112 and 115 which have nominal thicknesses of 50 and 125 m...
