Recycling of Polymer Waste Using Different Techniques
Sivri, Seda; Sezgi, Naime Aslı; Dilek Hacıhabiboğlu, Çerağ; Department of Chemical Engineering (2023-1-26)
Polylactic acid (PLA) is the most widely known renewable biodegradable polymer due to its mass production, good processability, optical, mechanical, thermal, and barrier properties. Hence, the production rate of PLA increased gradually during the last decade. However, PLA is known to have slow degradation rate in soil and marine environments, leading to significant waste accumulation with widespread usage of the polymer. Thus, recycling of PLA waste will become a significant environmental concern in near fu...
Utilization of fine coal tailings by flotation using ionic reagents
Sis, H; Ozbayoglu, G; Sarikaya, M (Informa UK Limited, 2004-08-01)
Fatty acid type ionic collectors were used as an alternative to conventional oily collectors, kerosene, and pine oil mixture in the flotation of coal tailing with 46.1% ash. The conventional collectors could not reduce the ash content of the concentrate below 22%. On the other hand, ionic collectors were found to be significantly better at reducing the ash content down to 13%. It was concluded that despite their lower flotation yield and higher consumptions, certain ionic collectors could be used successful...

Degradation of chlorinated compounds by Penicillium camemberti in batch and up-flow column reactors
Taseli, BK; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (Elsevier BV, 2005-02-01)
A Penicillium camemberti strain isolated in this laboratory was studied for its ability to degrade chlorinated compounds including pentachlorophenol (PCP), 2-chlorophenol and trichloroacetic acid. The batch experiments were conducted in shake flasks using PCP as co-substrate resulting in around 56% PCP removal by the fungus. Experiments in shake flasks not containing acetate but Tween 80, produced 86% of PCP and 53% of 2-chlorophenol removals in 21 days. PCP was also fed to a column reactor with an adsorbab...
