Generation of surface waves due to sudden movements at the sea bottom
Kırlangıç, Özgür Ulaş; Aydın, İsmail; Department of Civil Engineering (2004)
A mathematical model is developed for investigating time dependent surface deformations of a hydrostatic water volume, when it is subjected to a sudden partial collapse or rise of the sea bottom. The model solves two-dimensional Navier-Stokes Equations on a vertical plane numerically by using Marker and Cell Method (MAC) for viscous and compressible fluid including all the nonlinear effects in the solution. For demonstration, a vertical motion was given to a section in a hypothetical reservoir bed within a ...
Generation of cyclic/toroidal chaos by Hopfield neural networks
Akhmet, Marat (Elsevier BV, 2014-12-05)
We discuss the appearance of cyclic and toroidal chaos in Hopfield neural networks. The theoretical results may strongly relate to investigations of brain activities performed by neurobiologists. As new phenomena, extension of chaos by entrainment of several limit cycles as well as the attraction of cyclic chaos by an equilibrium are discussed. Appropriate simulations that support the theoretical results are depicted. Stabilization of tori in a chaotic attractor is realized not only for neural networks, but...
Generation of monthly precipitation series and the performance of homogeneity tests
Akça, Elif; Yozgatlıgil, Ceylan; Yazıcı, Ceyda (null; 2016-08-26)
Climate studies have gained importance due to the significant effect of climate change. The extreme meteorological events can cause floods, droughts, sudden change in the temperature or change in the climate trends. Since they have an important effect on human beings and the environment, these meteorological variables should be predicted and some precautions should be taken if possible. In order to conduct any kind of statistical analysis, the nonclimatic effects should be determined and corrected or remov...
Generation of a typical meteorological year using sunshine duration data
Ecevit, A.; Akınoğlu, Bülent Gültekin; Aksoy, B. (Elsevier BV, 2002-10)
In this paper, we discuss the possibility of using the daily sunshine duration or the daily sunshine duration over day-length data instead of daily global solar radiation in order to develop a Typical Meteorological Year, TMY2, for localities with abundant data of daily sunshine duration. The analysis is done using the latest methodology proposed in the literature. The number of coinciding months is about 40% when daily sunshine duration or the daily sunshine duration over day-length data is used instead of...
Estimation of wheat yields by using remotely sensed and modeled agro-meteorological data-driven statistical and crop growth models
Bulut, Burak; Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul; Department of Civil Engineering (2021-6)
Estimation of wheat yield is essential not only for agricultural sectors but also for making economic and strategic decisions at the national level. In this thesis, wheat yield estimation was carried out on the cities and districts where the highest wheat production is made with rainfed agriculture in Turkey and on TİGEM research farms. Two different modeling approaches were evaluated within the scope of the thesis; a statistical multiple linear regression (MLR) model based on analysis of possible agro-mete...
