Depositional stacking patterns and cycles of Garzan Formation in the Garzan-Germik oil field: an approach to cycle to log correlation
Yıldızel, Zeynep Elif Gaziulusoy; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2008)
The Garzan Formation is a deepening upward marine carbonate including successions ranging from subtidal to open marine facies deposited in the Maastrichtian. The Garzan Formation is composed of five microfacies types; Miliolid Wackestone (subtidal), Orbitoid Miliolid Wackestone, Rudist Wackestone (backshoal to shoal), Rotalid Miliolid Wackestone (shoal to foreshoal) and Pelagic Foraminiferal Mudstone (foreshoal to open marine). These five microfacies are stacked in different combinations consisting of five ...

Sedimentological fingerprints of recent earthquakes in lake sediments: a case study on the North Anatolian Fault (NAF), Turkey
Avşar, Ulaş; Hubert-ferrari, Aurelia; Fagel, Nathalie; Schmidt, Sabine (null; 2008-12-19)
Detection of past earthquakes spatially and temporally is vital to characterize fault systems. Seismological records and GPS measurements during the instrumental period provide precise information about time, location and magnitude of earthquakes, and also slip-rates on fault zones. However, limited observation period of these techniques prevents us from long-term faulting history. For pre-instrumental period, paleoseismic data is mainly obtained from two sources; historical records and paleoseismic trenchi...
