Production, purification and characterization of chitosanase from Penicillium spinulosum
Ak, O; Bakir, U; Güray, Nülüfer Tülün (1998-11-01)
A chitosan degrading fungus which had been isolated in our laboratory and identified as Penicillium spinulosum by the International Mycological Institute (England), was used for the production of chitosanase in a salt medium containing Rhizopus cell walls as the sole carbon source. Although chitosanase was produced under all the conditions tested about 1 % cell wall concentration maximized enzyme production. The enzyme was purified 50 fold by using ammonium sulfate precipitation and ion-exchange chromatogra...

Production and biochemical characterization of polyphenol oxidase from thermomyces lanuginosus
Astarcı, Erhan; Bakır, Ufuk; Ögel, Zümrüt B.; Department of Biotechnology (2003)
Polyphenol oxidases are enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of certain phenolic substrates to quinones in the presence of molecular oxygen. Polyphenol oxidases are widely used in several applications. In food industry, they are used for enhancement of flavor in coffee, tea and cocoa production, and determination of food quality. In medicine, they have several uses in treatments of Parkinson̕s disease, phenlyketonurea and leukemia. In wastewater treatment, they are used for the removal of phenolic pollutants...

Production and characterization of activated carbon from sulphonated styrene divinylbenzene copolymer
Abdallah, Wisam; Yücel, Hayrettin; Department of Chemical Engineering (2004)
Activated carbon was produced from strong cation-exchange resins, sulphonated styrene divinylbenzene copolymers originally in H+ form, by means of carbonization and steam activation in an electrical furnace. One macroporous resin produced by BAYER Chemicals Inc., Lewatit MonoPlus SP 112 H, was used in the research. Products of carbonization and activation were characterized by using BET, Mercury Porosimetry, Helium Pycnometry and SEM techniques. The effect of carbonization time and temperature on the BET su...
