Structural variations of SiOx matrix have been studied with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) during the formation of Si and Ge nanocrystal. Two frequently used methods, magnetron sputtering and ion implantation have been employed to form SiOx matrix containing excess Si and Ge.
