Modulation of Estrogen Response Element-Driven Gene Expressions and Cellular Proliferation with Polar Directions by Designer Transcription Regulators
Muyan, Mesut; Yasar, Pelin; Ayaz, Gamze; User, Sirma Damla; Kazan, Hasan Huseyin; Huang, Yanfang (2015-08-21)
Estrogen receptor a (ER alpha), as a ligand-dependent transcription factor, mediates 17 beta-estradiol (E2) effects. ERa is a modular protein containing a DNA binding domain (DBD) and transcription activation domains (AD) located at the amino-and carboxyl-termini. The interaction of the E2-activated ERa dimer with estrogen response elements (EREs) of genes constitutes the initial step in the ERE-dependent signaling pathway necessary for alterations of cellular features. We previously constructed monomeric t...
Reversal of multidrug resistance by synthetic and natural compounds in drug-resistant MCF-7 cell lines
Kars, Meltem Demirel; Iseri, Ozlem Darcansoy; Gündüz, Ufuk; Molnar, Jozsef (2008-01-01)
Background: Ineffectiveness of anticancer drugs is frequently observed in cancer chemotherapy. The resistance of tumor cells to various cytotoxic drugs is defined as multidrug resistance (MDR). The purpose of this study is to investigate the potential reversal effect of some synthetic and natural chemicals on drug-resistant MCF-7 cell lines. The effects of potential MDR modulators combined with some anticancer drugs were also studied. Methods: Flow cytometry, MTT cytotoxicity assays and checkerboard combina...

Evolution of Vibrational Modes of SiO2 During the Formation of Ge and Si Nanocrystals by Ion Implantation and Magnetron Sputtering
İMER, ALİ; Yerci, Selçuk; ALAGOZ, A. S.; KULAKCI, M.; SERINCAN, U.; FINSTAD, T. G.; Turan, Raşit (2010-01-01)
Structural variations of SiOx matrix have been studied with Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) during the formation of Si and Ge nanocrystal. Two frequently used methods, magnetron sputtering and ion implantation have been employed to form SiOx matrix containing excess Si and Ge. The Si-O-Si stretching mode has been deconvoluted to monitor the evolution of SiOx films during the annealing process. The integrated area and the shift in the SiOx peak positions are found to be well correlated with th...
