Microstructures and phase selection in rapidly solidified Zn-Mg alloys
Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat (1996-01-15)
The Zn-Mg system has potential glass-forming ability, and therefore studies were made of rapidly solidified zinc-based Zn-Mg alloys containing up to 6 wt % Mg. These alloys exhibited interesting eutectic phase selections and structural transitions across the ribbon thickness which are represented on a microstructure selection diagram for rapid solidification conditions. Although rapid solidification is known in many cases to produce metastable phases, in this case the equilibrium eutectic mixtures of Zn-Mg2...
Microstructural Investigation and Phase Relationships of Fe-Al-Hf Alloys
Yildirim, Mehmet; Akdeniz, Mahmut Vedat; Mehrabov, Amdulla (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-4-2)
The effect of Hf addition on microstructures, phase relationships, microhardness, and magnetic properties of Fe50Al50-n Hf (n) alloys for n = 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 at. pct has been investigated. At all investigated compositions, the ternary intermetallic HfFe6Al6 tau (1) phase forms due to the limited solid solubility of Hf in FeAl phase and tends to develop a eutectic phase mixture with the Fe-Al-based phase. The Hf concentration of the eutectic composition is found to be 7 at. pct from the microstructural exa...
Microstructure characterization of heat-treated ferromagnetic steels by magnetic barkhausen noise method
Gür, Cemil Hakan (2019-01-01)
This paper presents non-destructive evaluation of microstructures of heat treated steels by the Magnetic Barkhausen Noise (MBN) method. Various steel specimens having different microstructures were produced by appropriate heat treatments. All specimens were characterized by metallographic examinations, hardness and MBN measurements. The results showed that MBN parameters are highly sensitive to the variations in the microstructure, and this method is a promising candidate for practical non-destructive chara...
Microstructure and mechanical properties of FeCrAl alloys under heavy ion irradiations
Aydoğan Güngör, Eda; Maloy, S. A.; El-Atwani, O.; Wang, Y. Q.; Mara, N. A. (2018-05-01)
FeCrAl ferritic alloys are excellent cladding candidates for accident tolerant fuel systems due to their high resistance to oxidation as a result of formation of a protective Al2O3 scale at high temperatures in steam. In this study, we report the irradiation response of the 10Cr and 13Cr FeCrAl cladding tubes under Fe2+ ion irradiation up to similar to 16 dpa at 300 degrees C. Dislocation loop size, density and characteristics were determined using both two-beam bright field transmission electron microscopy...
