Deformation patterning driven by rate dependent non-convex strain gradient plasticity
Yalçınkaya, Tuncay; Geers, M.G.D. (2011-01-01)
A rate dependent strain gradient plasticity framework for the description of plastic slip patterning in a system with non-convex energetic hardening is presented. Both the displacement and the plastic slip fields are considered as primary variables. These fields are determined on a global level by solving simultaneously the linear momentum balance and the slip evolution equation which is postulated in a thermodynamically consistent manner. The slip law differs from classical ones in the sense that it includ...
Deformation in SW Anatolia (Turkey) Documented by Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility Data
ÖZKAPTAN, MURAT; Gülyüz, Erhan; UZEL, BORA; Langereis, Cor G.; Özacar, Atilla Arda; Kaymakcı, Nuretdin (2021-12-01)
Convergence between the Eurasian and the African plates in the West Anatolian-Aegean region results in a trench retreat due to slab roll-back and tearing of the subducted African lithosphere. The upper plate response of this process gave way to back-arc extension in the region. We have conducted a very detailed anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) study on the Neogene rocks in SW Anatolia to unravel the style and magnitudes of deformation. For this purpose, from 83 sites in 11 structurally homogeneou...
Deformation Analysis of Deep-Drawing by a Finite Element Method
Darendeliler, Haluk (1991-01-01)
A finite element method is developed to study the elastic-plastic deformation of sheet materials in the presence of large strains and large displacements. It is based on updated Lagrangian type formulation and membrane shell theory. The sheet is assumed to be isotropic and rate insensitive which obeys J2 flow theory. The work-hardening characterstics of material and Coulomb friction between the sheet metal and forming tools are incorporated. The method is used for modelling partial deep-drawing with the app...
Deformation driven homogenization of fracturing solids
Birkle, Manuel; Gürses, Ercan; Miehe, Christian (null; 2005-04-01)
The paper discusses numerical formulations of the homogenization for solids with discrete crack development. We focus onmulti–phase microstructures of heterogeneous materials, where fracture occurs in the form of debonding mechanisms as wellas matrix cracking. The definition of overall properties critically depends on the developing discontinuities. To this end, weextend continuous formulations [1] to microstructures with discontinuities [2]. The basic underlying structure is a canonicalvariational formulati...
Deformation modulus of heavily jointed-sheared and blocky greywackes by pressuremeter tests: Numerical, experimental and empirical assessments
IŞIK, Nihat Sinan; ULUSAY, REŞAT; Doyuran, Vedat (2008-10-17)
Deformability of rock masses influencing their behavior is an important geomechanical property for the design of rock structures. Due to the difficulties in determining the deformability of jointed rock masses at the laboratory-scale, various in-situ test methods such as pressuremeter, dilatometer, plate loading tests etc. have been developed. Although these techniques are currently the best and direct methods, they are time-consuming and expensive, and present operational difficulties. In addition, the inf...
