M.; Landry, Michael R.; Moore, J. Keith; Nelson, David M.; Richardson, Tammi L.; Salihoğlu, Barış; Schartau, Markus; Toole, Dierdre A.; Wiggert, Jerry D. (2006-01-01)
In this paper, we review the state of the art and major challenges in current efforts to incorporate biogeochemical functional groups into models that can be applied on basin-wide and global scales, with an emphasis on models that might ultimately be used to predict how biogeochernical cycles in the ocean will respond to global warming. We define the term "biogeochemical functional group" to refer to groups of organisms that mediate specific chemical reactions in the ocean. Thus, according to this definitio...

Particulate and dissolved primary production along a pronounced hydrographic and trophic gradient (Turkish Straits System-NE Aegean Sea)
Lagaria, A.; Psarra, S.; Gogou, A.; Tuğrul, Selen; Christaki, U. (Elsevier BV, 2013-06-01)
The rates of particulate (PPp) and dissolved primary production (PPd) were estimated along a trajectory of variable environmental regimes formed in a narrow shelf area, following the course of Black Sea water masses (BSW) passing through the Turkish Straits System (TSS) into the NE Aegean Sea (BS-AS outflow). Seven stations in total were sampled, covering a transect from the eastern edge of the Marmara Sea basin to the NE Aegean Sea, during two consecutive cruises performed in October 2008 within the framew...
PLANKTONIC FORAMINIFERAL BIOSTRATIGRAPHY, MICROFACIES ANALYSIS, SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY, AND SEA-LEVEL CHANGES ACROSS THE CRETACEOUS-PALEOGENE BOUNDARY IN THE HAYMANA BASIN, CENTRAL ANATOLIA, TURKEY
Esmeray-Senlet, Selen; Altıner, Sevinç; Altıner, Demir; Miller, Kenneth G. (2015-05-01)
The Cretaceous-Paleogene (K/Pg) boundary in the Haymana Basin, Central Anatolia, Turkey, was delineated using planktonic foraminiferal biostratigraphy, microfacies analysis, and sequence stratigraphy. An similar to 29 m outcrop consisting of limestone and marl was measured, and four planktonic foraminiferal biozones were identified spanning the boundary. Planktonic foraminiferal extinction across the K/Pg boundary was catastrophic and abrupt. The extinction level is overlain by a unit (Zone P0) showing an i...
Abiotic and biotic drivers of temporal dynamics in the spatial heterogeneity of zooplankton communities across lakes in recovery from eutrophication
Fu, Hui; Özkan, Korhan; Yuan, Guixiang; Johansson, Liselotte Sander; Søndergaard, Martin; Lauridsen, Torben L.; Jeppesen, Erik (2021-07-15)
Seasonal and annual dynamics of the zooplankton community in lakes are affected by changes in abiotic drivers, trophic interactions (e.g., changes in phytoplankton and fish communities and abundances) and habitat characteristics (e.g. macrophyte abundance and composition). However, little is known about the temporal responses of the zooplankton community to abiotic and biotic drivers across lakes at the regional scale. Using a comprehensive 20-year dataset from 20 Danish lakes in recovery from eutrophicatio...
