Distributed database design with integer linear programming and evolutionary hybrid algorithms
Tosun, Umut; Coşar, Ahmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2013)
The communication costs of remote access and retrieval of table fragments required in the execution of distributed database queries, are the major factors determining the quality of a distributed database design. Data allocation algorithms try to minimize these costs by dividing database tables into horizontal fragments, then assigning each fragment at or near the database sites they are needed more frequently. In this thesis, we propose efficient optimization algorithms for centralized and distributed data...
Distributed discrete event simulation architecture with connectors

In this thesis we propose a distributed approach to Simulation Modeling Architecture (SiMA) with software connectors via Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) as a middleware technology. SiMA is a DEVS-based modeling and simulation framework developed in TUBITAK BILGEM ILTAREN. Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) is a formalism that arranges complex system models with a well-defined execution protocol. A connector is a first class entity which performs interaction among components and plays an impor...

Distributed Power Control Using Non-monotonic Reaction Curves
Ozel, Omur; Uysal, Elif (2009-05-15)
In this paper, we study distributed power control in an interference network. In particular, distributed power control mechanisms are devised by exploiting a one-shot noncooperative game based on a suitably chosen utility function. The utility is a function of quality of service (QoS) objectives defined in terms of fading-induced outage probabilities. Equilibrium analysis of the resulting power control game is made, and its relationship with admission control is discussed. The main contribution of the paper...
