On the Hamiltonian circle actions and symplectic reduction
Demir, Ali Sait; Ozan, Yıldıray; Department of Mathematics (2003)
Given a symplectic manifold, it is of interest how Lie group actions, their orbit spaces look like and what are some topological requirements on the existence of such actions. In this thesis we present the work of Ono, giving some sufficient conditions for non-existence of circle actions on symplectic manifolds and work of Li, describing the fundamental groups of symplectic reductions of circle actions.
On the supersymmetric solutions of D=3 half-maximal supergravities
DEĞER, NİHAT SADIK; Samtleben, Henning; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür (2010-11-21)
We initiate a systematic study of the solutions of three-dimensional matter-coupled half-maximal (N = 8) supergravities which admit a Killing spinor. To this end we analyze in detail the invariant tensors built from spinor bilinears, a technique originally developed and applied in higher dimensions. This reveals an intriguing interplay with the scalar target space geometry SO(8, n)/(SO(8) x SO(n)). Another interesting feature of the three-dimensional case is the implementation of the duality between vector ...
On homotopy groups of real algebraic varieties and their complexifications
Ozan, Yıldıray (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2004-10-01)
Let X-0 be a topological component of a nonsingular real algebraic variety and i : X --> X-C is a nonsingular projective complexification of X. In this paper, we will study the homomorphism on homotopy groups induced by the inclusion map i: X-0 --> X-C and obtain several results using rational homotopy theory and other standard tools of homotopy theory.

On the deformation chirality of real cubic fourfolds
Finashin, Sergey (Wiley, 2009-09-01)
According to our previous results, the conjugacy class of the involution induced by the complex conjugation in the homology of a real non-singular cubic fourfold determines the fourfold tip to projective equivalence and deformation. Here, we show how to eliminate the projective equivalence and obtain a pure deformation classification, that is, how to respond to the chirality problem: which cubics are not deformation equivalent to their image under a mirror reflection. We provide an arithmetical criterion of...
