Rutting Potential of Asphalt Mixtures Using Concept of Shear Resistance
Güler, Murat (2006-06-12)
In this study, correlation between rutting potential of hot asphalt mixtures and shear resistance is investigated using Gyratory Load Cell Plate Assembly (GLPA). The GLPA was developed to measure shear resistance of asphalt mixtures with the Superpave gyratory compactor. To demonstrate a possible correlation between shear resistance and rutting, unconfined triaxial repeated load tests were conducted on specimens compacted by varying gradation, asphalt content and fine aggregate angularity. Results of MnRoad...
Compressive strength development of calcium aluminate cement-GGBFS blends
Kirca, Onder; Yaman, İsmail Özgür; Tokyay, Mustafa (2013-01-01)
The compressive strength development of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) blends that were subjected to different curing regimes are investigated. The blends had GGBFS/CAC ratios between 0% and 80%, by mass. Mortar specimens, prepared with a water:binder:sand ratio of 1:2:6, were subjected to seven different curing regimes and the compressive strengths were monitored up to 210 days. In order to understand the effect of temperature on compressive strength develop...
Flocculation behavior of clayey dolomites in borax solutions
Hoşten, Çetin; Cirak, Mustafa (2013-02-01)
Flocculation behavior of two clay rock samples with different dolomite and clay mineral (smectite) contents was examined using a non-conventional, medium-anionic polyacrylamide-based flocculant in borax solutions. The samples were representative of two major types of gangue material discarded from the borax processing plant at Kirka/Turkey as borax-saturated tailings stream which present serious disposal problems from technical and environmental points of view. The effect of the dissolved borax concentratio...
Viscoelastic characteristics of chain extended/branched and linear polyethylene terephthalate resins
Yılmazer, Ülkü; Xanthos, M; Bayram, Göknur; Tan, V (Wiley, 2000-03-01)
Two chemically modified chain extended/branched polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins and one unmodified resin, considered to be linear, were characterized in terms of their melt flow, die swell, and viscoelastic properties. The three resins had reportedly similar nominal intrinsic viscosities but exhibited different viscoelastic behavior. The modified resins had lower melt flow index, higher die swell, higher complex viscosity and higher storage modulus than the unmodified one. The Cole-Cole plots of the...
