Low-Cycle Fatigue Testing of Shear Links and Calibration of a Damage Law
Bozkurt, Mehmet Baklr; Kazemzadeh Azad, Sina; Topkaya, Cem (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), 2018-10-01)
This paper experimentally studies the low-cycle fatigue (LCF) behavior of shear links in eccentrically braced frames (EBFs) with the aim of calibrating a convenient damage law for estimating the exhausted as well as remaining life of these members under any loading history. A total of 14 specimens are tested using a nearly full-scale EBF setup under constant-amplitude cycles as well as proportional and arbitrary loading histories. A generalized damage law is subsequently calibrated using results of the pres...
Low-temperature photoluminescence study of GaS0.5Se0.5 layered crystals
Aydinli, A; Hasanlı, Nızamı; Goksen, K (2001-09-01)
Photoluminescence (PL) spectra of GaS0.5Se0.5 layered single crystals have been studied in the wavelength range of 565-860 nm and in the temperature range of 15-170 K. Two PL bands centered at 585 nm (2.120 eV) and 640 nm (1.938 eV) were observed at T = 15 K. Variations of both bands were studied as a function of excitation laser intensity in the range from 10(-3) to 15.9 W cm(-2). These bands are attributed to recombination of charge carriers through donor-acceptor pairs located in the band gap. Radiative ...
Low-level image segmentation based scene classification
Akbaş, Emre (2010-08-26)
This paper is aimed at evaluating the semantic information content of multiscale, low-level image segmentation. As a method of doing this, we use selected features of segmentation for semantic classification of real images. To estimate the relative measure of the information content of our features, we compare the results of classifications we obtain using them with those obtained by others using the commonly used patch/grid based features. To classify an image using segmentation based features, we model th...
Low-cost motor drive-embedded fault diagnosis a simple harmonic analyzer
AKIN, Bilal; TOLIYAT, Hamid A.; Orguner, Umut; RAYNER, Mark (2007-03-01)
The reference frame theory and its applications to fault diagnosis of electric machinery as a powerful tool to find the magnitude and phase quantities of fault signatures are explored in this paper. The core idea is to convert the associated fault signature to a dc quantity, followed by calculating the signal average value in the new reference frame to filter out the rest of the signal harmonics, i. e. its ac components. Broken rotor bar and rotor eccentricity faults are experimentally tested both offline u...
Low cycle fatigue effects in integral bridge steel H-piles under seismic displacement reversals
Dicleli, Murat (IOS Press, 2013-12-01)
Under the effect of medium and large intensity ground motions, the seismically-induced lateral cyclic displacements in steel H-piles of integral bridges (IBs) could be considerable. As a result, the piles may experience cyclic plastic deformations following a major earthquake. This may result in the reduction of their service life due to low-cycle fatigue effects. Accordingly, low cycle fatigue in integral bridge piles is investigated under seismic effects in this study. For this purpose, IBs with two spans...
