Analysis and Design of Multichannel Systems for Perceptual Sound Field Reconstruction
De Sena, Enzo; Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Cvetkovic, Zoran (2013-08-01)
This paper presents a systematic framework for the analysis and design of circular multichannel surround sound systems. Objective analysis based on the concept of active intensity fields shows that for stable rendition of monochromatic plane waves it is beneficial to render each such wave by no more than two channels. Based on that finding, we propose a methodology for the design of circular microphone arrays, in the same configuration as the corresponding loudspeaker system, which aims to capture inter-cha...
Analysis and prediction of masonry wallette strength under combined compression-bending via stochastic computational modeling
Gonen, Semih; Pulatsu, Bora; Lourenço, Paulo B.; Lemos, José V.; Tuncay, Kağan; Erduran, Emrah (2023-03-01)
The out-of-plane flexural bending capacity of masonry is a fundamental property for understanding the behavior of masonry structures. This study investigates the behavior of unreinforced masonry wallettes subjected to combined compression-flexural loading using the discrete element method (DEM), and provides a novel framework to estimate the masonry strength. A simplified micro-modeling strategy is utilized to analyze a masonry wallette, including the variation of the mechanical properties in masonry units ...

Analysis and modelling of machine tool dynamics and cutting stability during operation
Özşahin, Orkun; Özgüven, Hasan Nevzat; Budak, Erhan; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2014)
Self-excited vibrations of machine tools during cutting result in process instability, poor surface finish and reduced material removal rate. In order to obtain stability lobe diagrams to avoid chatter vibration, tool point frequency response function (FRF) must be determined. In classical machine tool studies, tool point FRF is obtained experimentally or analytically for the idle state of the machine. However, during cutting operations, discrepancies are frequently observed between the stability diagrams o...
Analysis and design of cylindrically conformal microstrip antennas
Taşoğlu, Ali Özgür; Dural Ünver, Mevlüde Gülbin; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2011)
Cylindrically conformal microstrip antennas are investigated. Two different structures, namely proximity coupled and E-shaped microstrip antennas are analyzed and information about the design parameters is obtained by means of parametric study. With these structures, cylindrical arrays, having omnidirectional radiation in the circumferential plane of the cylinder, are designed. Proximity coupled cylindrical arrays operate in the 2.3-2.4 GHz aeronautical telemetry band with approximately 4% bandwidth. On the...
