A Study on the preliminary design of tall buildings: investigating structural components
Çamlıbel, Gülçin; Ay, Bekir Özer; Department of Building Science in Architecture (2019)
Tall buildings are built to respond to limited and high-cost urban land problem, and they became essential for urbanization which changes the sights of the cities. These buildings are huge investments, and keeping Net Floor Area (NFA) within acceptable limits while satisfying stiffness and strength requirements of the building is important; therefore, different structural systems are improved in order to overcome huge lateral load demands. Since simple design approaches and rule-of-thumb dimensioning method...
A theoretical study of electrocyclizations of dienylketenes to cyclohexadienones: an AM1 study
Zora, Metin; Ozarslan, E (2002-08-16)
Cyclizations of various dienylketenes into 2,4-cyclohexadienones were theoretically investigated by using AM I method at the restricted HF level. For most of the dienylketenes, cyclization into 2,4-cyclohexadienone was calculated to be a favored and exothermic process. For the dienylketenes in which terminal double bond is embedded into a benzenoid type aryl moiety, partial or complete loss of aromaticity caused an increase in the activation barrier and made the reaction less exothermic or even endothermic....
A Model study on wave transmission through pile breakwaters
Bilici, Çağdaş; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Ergin, Ayşen; Department of Civil Engineering (2014)
In the present study, wave transmission through pile breakwaters is examined experimentally. The experiments consist of eight model cases of set-up placed in three different wave flumes in Ocean Engineering Research Centre, Civil Engineering Department, Middle East Technical University with a model scale of 12.857. These experiments mainly focused on understanding how wave transmission changes under the influence of regular incident wave characteristics with different breakwater cross sections. Results are ...
A combinatorial study on ZnO-In2O3-SnO2 system: The effects of different postgrowth annealing conditions on optical and electrical properties
Can, Hilal Aybike; Öztürk, Tayfur; AKYILDIZ, HASAN (2022-11-01)
ZnO-In2O3-SnO2 (ZITO) thin film library was produced via the combinatorial approach. The films were deposited using a magnetron sputtering system. Varying ZITO compositions were obtained in a single deposition run by employing a custom-made triangular type of substrate carrier magazine. The effect of various postgrowth annealing atmospheres on the electrical and optical properties of the films were ex-amined. Air, Ar, forming gas (Ar+4 vol% H-2), and successive annealing under forming gas + argon atmo-spher...
A study on dam instrumentation retrofitting
Yanmaz, Ali Melih; ARI, Onur (2011-02-01)
Continuous monitoring and inspection of large dams would provide means for proper rehabilitative actions to be taken on time which intend to maintain the desired safety throughout the physical life of dams. Comprehensive inspections can be carried out using a number of instruments. An ideal dam instrumentation system should provide time-dependent information about critical parameters so that possible future behaviour of the structure can be predicted. Numerous of the existing dams do not have adequate instr...
