Prepositioning of relief items has been studied in humanitarian logistics by several researchers. Lateral transshipment applications are observed in commercial supply chains, but have not been included into the humanitarian relief chains. The main objective of this thesis is to include lateral transshipment opportunities into humanitarian relief chains and examine the effect of different parameters with the aim of minimizing the average response time to serve the people in need. In this study, location of humanitarian relief facilities, number of opened humanitarian relief facilities, quantity of relief items to hold at those facilities, quantity of lateral transshipment between opened facilities are determined by using mathematical programming models. Vulnerability of the roads and heterogeneous capacitated facilities are considered. Firstly, a direct shipment model is developed where lateral transshipment made between relief facilities is not allowed. Then, a lateral transshipment model is developed where lateral transshipment between relief facilities is allowed for relief item distribution. Direct shipment and lateral transshipment models are compared using a possible earthquake scenario generated for İstanbul with respect to the average distance travelled per relief item in two models. It is seen that allowing lateral transshipment provides faster response time to reach the affected. In lateral transshipment model, transportation on highways is vi studied for Anatolian and European sides as separately. By allowing lateral transshipment on seaway between Anatolian and European sides, maritime lateral transshipment model is developed. Lateral transshipment model is compared with maritime lateral transshipment model with respect to the value of average distance travelled per relief item. It is observed that opening 20 and more than 20 relief facilities give lower average distance travelled value per relief item for maritime lateral transshipment model compared to the lateral transshipment model based on land transportation.

This study examines the authority of local administrations in need of local-level preparedness, community participation and training to have efficient and sustainable disaster risk reduction (DRR) and disaster risk management (DRM) in Turkey. The enduring debates between the local authorities and central government in Turkey, history of regulations for disasters and local governments involving the discussion regarding the recently published local government law; national and international DRM improvements a...
Application of vapour extraction VAPEX process for light crude oil
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Akın, Serhat (2008-01-01)
The objective of this study is to investigate the applicability of Vapex process on Garzan crude oil. Experiments were performed with Hele-Shaw cell using two different solvents (propane and butane) at three different injection rates (20, 40, and 80 ml/min). For both Vapex solvents, oil production rates increased with injection rates for Garzan crude oil. Instantaneous asphaltene rate for Garzan oil showed fluctuated performance with propane solvent. Butane showed almost constant degree of asphaltene precip...
Robust optimization of risk-aware, resilient and sustainable closed-loop supply chain network design with Lagrange relaxation and fix-and-optimize
Lotfi, Reza; Sheikhi, Zohre; Amra, Mohsen; AliBakhshi, Mehdi; Weber, Gerhard Wilhelm (2021-12-01)
This study explores a Robust, Risk-aware, Resilient, and Sustainable Closed-Loop Supply Chain Network Design (3RSCLSCND) to tackle demand fluctuation like COVID-19 pandemic. A two-stage robust stochastic multiobjective programming model serves to express the proposed problems in formulae. The objective functions include minimising costs, CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and maximising employment by applying Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) to achieve reliability through risk reduction. The Entropic Value ...
A Comparative Study On The Humanitarian Relief Operations: Van-Turkey And Tohoku-Japan Earthquakes
Snoubar, Yaser; Tanrısever, Oktay Fırat (2019-10-01)
The purpose of this article is to compare the humanitarian relief operations in Van- Turkey earthquake and Tohoku- Japan earthquake 2011. Essentially, this study questions whether the long experiences of Turkey and Japan in the management of natural disasters, especially earthquakes, have affected the development of humanitarian relief operations, what are the humanitarian relief operations of the two countries to overcome the disaster and manage it and what measures should be taken in this regard to prepar...
Psychometric properties of the reassurance-seeking scale in a Turkish sample
Gençöz, Tülin; Gençöz, Faruk (2005-02-01)
This study examined the psychometric properties of the Reassurance-Seeking Scale in a sample of 102 Turkish undergraduate students. High internal consistency reliability was found for the Reassurance-Seeking Scale (alpha=.86). Factor analysis of the scale identified a single component that accounted for 71% of the total variance. The scale was significantly positively correlated with the Beck Depression Inventory and Beck Anxiety Inventory and had a significantly negative correlation with the Rosenberg Self...
