Silicon Based Metamaterial Design with Circular Ring Resonator Topology as a Near-Infrared Concentrator
Gunduz, Ozan T.; Sabah, Cumali; Leitgeb, Erich (2016-07-14)
The evanescent wave enhancement of left-handed (LH) metamaterials (MTMs) have always been providing a great opportunity to establish useful refraction systems, which could be optimally utilized to a vast amount of engineering applications on the front burner. We proposed a specific MTM structure to realize and control the unusual properties of MTMs, which are aimed to be useful in the development process of conventional techniques governing certain applications. The simulation results are used to verify the...
Silicon nanowire network metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors
Mulazimoglu, Emre; Coskun, Sahin; Gunoven, Mete; Bütün, Bayram; Özbay, Ekmel; Turan, Raşit; Ünalan, Hüsnü Emrah (AIP Publishing, 2013-08-19)
We report on the fabrication and characterization of solution-processed, highly flexible, silicon nanowire network based metal-semiconductor-metal photodetectors. Both the active part of the device and the electrodes are made of nanowire networks that provide both flexibility and transparency. Fabricated photodetectors showed a fast dynamic response, 0.43 ms for the rise and 0.58 ms for the fall-time, with a decent on/off ratio of 20. The effect of nanowire-density on transmittance and light on/off behavior...
Silicon microspheres for optical modulation applications
Yüce, Emre; GÜRLÜ, Oguzhan; SERPENGÜZEL, Ali (2009-05-06)
A silicon microsphere coupled to a silica optical fiber half coupler is excited using a diode laser operating at 1.55 mu m. The transmitted and the 90 degrees elastically scattered light signals are modulated with an electrical square wave applied to the silicon microsphere.
Silicon carbide particle embedded magnesium oxychloride cement composite bricks for polishing of porcelain stoneware tiles
Öztürk, Abdullah (2011-10-01)
Silicon carbide (SiC) particle embedded magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) composite polishing bricks developed for polishing of porcelain stoneware tiles were produced by incorporating 600 and 1200 grit SiC particles to the MOC paste in the amounts of 20, 25 and 30 wt-%. Density, compressive strength, abrasion resistance and polishing properties of the bricks were determined with respect to the amount and particle size of the SiC powder. SiC particle embedment enhanced density, compressive strength and abr...
Silicon nanoparticles enhanced the growth and reduced the cadmium accumulation in grains of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)
Ali, Shafaqat; Rizwan, Muhammad; Hussain, Afzal; Rehman, Muhammad Zia Ur; Ali, Basharat; Yousaf, Balal; Wijaya, Leonard; Alyemeni, Mohammed Nasser; Ahmad, Parvaiz (2019-07-01)
The application of silicon (Si) under heavy metal stress is well known, but the use of Si nanoparticles (NPs) under metal stress in not well documented. Thus, the experiments were performed to investigate the impacts of soil and foliar applied Si NPs on wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) growth and cadmium (Cd) accumulation in grains under Cd toxicity. The plants were grown under natural environmental conditions and were harvested after physiological maturity (124 days after sowing). The results demonstrated that...
