The asymmetric PES membranes were produced by wet phase inversion method. Observations show that 10% loading of ZIF-8 with 65 nm crystal size into PES membranes, increasing solvent and non-solvent content of the IPA coagulation bath improved the permeance of PES membranes. The PI membranes were prepared by light induced dry-wet phase inversion method which is a new method and is not used in literature yet. The maximum permeance was observed when the IR exposure took less than 10 seconds. The permeance was about 8.51 GPU, 2.44 GPU and 0.13 GPU for H2, CO2 and CH4, respectively. Solvent ratio THF/DMF was the other parameter whose effect was studied. CO2 permeance of PI membranes was measured 0.81 GPU, 2.55 GPU and 6.65 GPU corresponding to the 0.80, 0.42, 0.17 THF/DMF ratio of casting solution, respectively. For PI membranes, ZIF-8 loading resulted in thicker skin layer and lower permeance. The asymmetric PI membranes were produced by light induced dry-vapor phase inversion method. The two important opportunities of this method were fixing the ZIF-8 crystals in the skin layer and contributing pNA in the membrane. For mixed matrix-pNA membranes produced by this method, the maximum selectivity was about 3.24, 132.68, and 40.9 for H2/CO2, H2/CH4 and CO2/CH4, respectively. The effect of ZIF-8 loading on sorption capacity of dense PI mixed matrix membrane (MMM) was investigated. CO2 sorption capacity increased by 22% and 40% at 10 bar corresponding to ZIF-8 loading by 10% and 20 %. The enhancement in CH4 sorption capacity was 20% and 60% at 10 bar corresponding to 10% and 20% of ZIF-8 addition. In the multicomponent sorption in glassy polymers the solubility of all gases depressed with different extents due to a competitive effect.

GAS PERMEATION CHARACTERISTICS OF POLYMER-ZEOLITE MIXED MATRIX MEMBRANES
SUER, MG; BAC, N; Yılmaz, Levent (1994-05-20)
Mixed matrix membranes of polyethersulfone (PES), a glassy polymer, and hydrophilic zeolites 13X and 4A were prepared by using different membrane preparation procedures. Using selected procedure (c), the permeation rates of N2, O2, Ar, CO2 and H-2 were measured with a variety of membranes prepared at different zeolite loadings. Significant differences in measured permeability and calculated selectivity values demonstrated the importance of the type and percentage of zeolite. For both zeolitic additives, per...
Polymeric microsieves via phase separation microfabrication: Process and design optimization
Bikel, M.; Çulfaz Emecen, Pınar Zeynep; Bolhuis-Versteeg, L.A.M.; Pérez, J. Garduño; Lammertink, R.G.H.; Wessling, M. (2010-02-01)
Phase separation microfabrication (PS mu F) is a fabrication method that allows the preparation of membranes having micropattern surface topologies. PS mu F has been successfully used for manufacturing polymeric microsieves. The technique benefits from the vertical shrinkage of polymer solutions to ensure perforation by the pillars on the mold. The horizontal shrinkage causes deformation of some pores and increased peeling forces. This can lead to rupture of molds as well as inoperable microsieves. The effe...
Fabrication and characterization of corrugated microfiltration membranes
Gençal, Yiğit; Çulfaz Emecen, Pınar Zeynep; Department of Chemical Engineering (2014)
In this study, the effect of corrugations on the membrane fouling performances of polyethersulfone (PES) membranes was investigated. Membranes were prepared by non-solvent induced phase inversion method and they were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), pure water permeance (PWP) and fouling during Baker’s yeast (saccharomyces cerevisiae) filtration. Since, it is nearly impossible to create the skin-layer on the mold side of the membrane a symmetric morphology was sought. In order to achieve...
Sensitivity Analysis of Major Drilling Parameters on Cuttings Transport during Drilling Highly-inclined Wells
Ozbayoglu, E. M.; Miska, S. Z.; Takach, N.; Reed, T. (Informa UK Limited, 2009-01-01)
In this study, a layered cuttings transport model is developed for high-angle and horizontal wells, which can be used for incompressible non-Newtonian fluids as well as compressible non-Newtonian fluids (i.e., foams). The effects of major drilling parameters, such as flow rate, rate of penetration, fluid density, viscosity, gas ratio, cuttings size, cuttings density, wellbore inclination and eccentricity of the drillsting on cuttings transport efficiency are analyzed. The major findings from this study are,...
Effect of fiber and resin type on the axial and circumferencial tensile strength of fiber reinforced polyester pipe
Gökçe, Neslihan; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2008)
In this study, the aim is to investigate the stiffness, longitudinal tensile strength and circumferential tensile strength of short fiber reinforced polyester composite pipes produced by centrifugal casting production method. To achieve this aim, theoretical calculation of modulus of elasticity of pipes was done and then test program was carried out on pipe samples produced with three different resin types which were orthophthalic, isophthalic and vinyl ester resin and three different fiber types which were...
