Characterization of molybdenum oxide and magnesium doped zinc oxide charge transport layers deposited by sputtering for heterojunction solar cells
Bektaş, Gence; Yerci, Selçuk; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2017)
Group IV semiconductors can easily be doped by group III and V elements to possess p and n type behavior, respectively, which enables homojunction solar cell designs. However, most of the compound semiconductors including CIGS, CdTe and perovskite can intrinsically be either n or p type. Therefore, heterojunction structures with well-aligned conduction bands between the absorber and electron transport layer (ETL) and well-aligned valence bands between the absorber and hole transport layer (HTL) are required...
Characterization of electrolyte and pyrotechnic powders and pellets
Kalender, Volkan; Özbelge, H. Önder; Department of Chemical Engineering (2011)
Electrolyte and pyrotechnic pellets are two important components of thermal batteries. Both electrolyte and pyrotechnic pellets are produced by cold compaction of constituent powders. These compacts are integrated in the battery as pellets with sufficient green density, green strength, calorific energy and burning rate (for pyrotechnic only) to provide high performance batteries. In this study, effects of physical properties of the used powders such as particle size distribution, average particle size, part...
CHARACTERIZATION OF LATENT THERMAL ENERGY IN A STORAGE UNIT WITH FIBONACCI-SEQUENCE-INSPIRED FINS
Baghaei Oskouei, Seyedmohsen; Bayer, Özgür; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2023-1-19)
Latent thermal energy storage (LTES) is a viable method to mitigate one of the main problems with renewable energy sources, such as solar energy, which is their intermittent nature. LTES units take advantage of the large latent heat of fusion in phase change materials (PCMs) to store a substantial amount of energy in a relatively small volume, making them efficient and economical. The major challenge with PCMs is their low thermal conductivity, eventuating long melting (charging) and solidification (dischar...
Characterization of phase properties and deformation in ferritic-austenitic duplex stainless steels by nanoindentation and finite element method
Schwarm, Samuel C.; Kolli, R. Prakash; Aydoğan Güngör, Eda; Mburu, Sarah; Ankem, Sreeramamurthy (2017-01-01)
The phase properties and deformation behavior of the delta-ferrite and gamma-austenite phases of CF-3 and CF-8 cast duplex stainless steels were characterized by nanoindentation and microstructure-based finite element method (FEM) models. The elastic modulus of each phase was evaluated and the results indicate that the mean elastic modulus of the delta-ferrite phase is greater than that of the gamma-austenite phase, and the mean nanoindentation hardness values of each phase are approximately the same. The e...
Characterization of adsorption-desorption properties of oxygen & water on mixed oxides
Ateş, Cihan; Üner, Deniz; Department of Chemical Engineering (2015)
The scope of this study includes the development of a methodology to determine a candidate material for two step thermochemical heat storage applications via fundamental principles of thermodynamics. The feasibility of utilizing stored thermochemical energy to produce CO from CO2 and H2 from H2O was demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. Metal oxide selection criteria were chosen as transport, kinetic and thermodynamic constraints. As a result Co3O4 was considered worthy of further investigation. Th...
