Novel boron specific copolymers with quaternary amine segments for efficient boron removal via PEUF
Zerze, Hasan; Ozbelge, H. Onder; Bicak, Niyazi; AYDOĞAN, NİHAL; Yılmaz, Levent (2013-02-01)
In this study, a copolymer, poly (vinyl amino-N, N'-bis-propane diol-co-DADMAC) (GPVA-co-DADMAC) was synthesized in three comonomer ratios (2%, 5% and 10%) and efficiently exploited for boron removal via polymer enhanced ultrafiltration (PEUF). Boron concentration could be reduced from 10 ppm down to 0.8 ppm by the employment of novel copolymer in continuous PEUF at pH 9 and boron-to-polymer mass ratio (loading) of 0.001. Polymer precipitation was not observed even after complexation with boron. Boron reten...
Novel bimetallic mesoporous catalysts for hydrogen production through steam reforming of ethanol
Şener, Canan; Doğu, Timur; Doğu, Gülşen; Department of Chemical Engineering (2012)
Hydrogen is considered as an alternative clean energy source due to the depletion of fossil fuels and related environmental problems. Steam reforming of bio-ethanol, has excellent potential for hydrogen production, with CO2 neutrality. Ni, Pd and Pt are the most active metals for steam reforming of ethanol. Improving catalytic activity of supported Ni catalyst by incorporating small amount of Pd or Pt is a successful method for increasing activity and stability of the catalyst. Development of active and sta...
Novel supramolecular organocatalyst for asymmetric aldol reactions
Demircan, Ezgi; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Tanyeli, Cihangir; Department of Chemistry (2013)
The proline–calix[4]arene thiourea host–guest complex catalyzed intermolecular aldol reaction of aromatic aldehydes with cyclohexanone is developed. The anti-configured products were obtained in good yields and high enantioselectivities. The reaction is proposed to work via modified Houk–List model, where the carboxylate part of the proline constitutes a supramolecular system with the thiourea. The outcome of the study indicates the influence of the calix[4]arene thiourea on the reactivity and selectivity i...
Novel phenanthrocarbazole containing conjugated polymers as high performance electrochromic materials
Atakan, Gizem; Günbaş, Emrullah Görkem; Department of Chemistry (2016)
For potential application of electrochromic materials in display technologies, materials having additive or subtractive primary colors in their neutral states that switch to a highly tranmissive states are desired since the entire color spectrum can be created using these materials. The RGB color model requires three complementary colors; red, green and blue. Even though the RGB colored polymers in the electrochromic research area were fulfilled over the past decade, towards high quality display application...
Novel Mesoporous Nanocomposite WOx-Silicate Acidic Catalysts: Ethylene and Diethylether from Ethanol
Varisli, Dilek; Doğu, Timur; DOĞU, GÜLŞEN (2009-11-04)
Solid acid catalysts are extensively used in a number of industrially important catalytic reactions. Here, water-insoluble novel mesoporous solid acid catalysts, with a unique structure composed of WOx nanorods and W nanoballs within an amorphous silicate lattice, were synthesized following a one-pot hydrothermal route. using silicotungstic acid (STA) as the active component. Surface area of these catalysts ire more than 2 orders of magnitude higher than that of pure STA, and they showed very high activity ...
