Theoretical study of tetramethyl- and tetra-tert-butyl-substituted cyclobutadiene and tetrahedrane
Balcı, Metin; McKee, ML; Schleyer, PV (2000-02-17)
The tetramethyl and tetra-tert-butyl derivatives of cyclobutadiene and tetrahedrane have been studied with ab initio and density functional methods. The ring in tetra-tert-butylcyclobutadiene displays very unequal bond lengths (1.354, 1.608 Angstrom) and confirms the earlier suspicion that the low-temperature X-ray structure was distorted. The C-C single bonds have the longest separations found to date between sp(2)-hybridized carbons. Tetra-rert-butyltetrahedrane, which prefers T over Td symmetry, is calcu...
Theoretical study of thermal rearrangements of 2-alkylidenecyclopenta-1,3-diyl biradicals
Bozkaya, Uğur; Özkan, İlker; Department of Chemistry (2011)
Thermal rearrangements of Berson TMMs have been investigated. For this purpose, the potential energy surface of the singlet S state has been explored to test Benson’s Schemes 1-2 (Figure 1.10 and 1.11). It is verified that the enyne 9c plays a central role in connecting the two portions of the reaction path (Berson Schemes 1 and 2). Connectivity of successive minima on a given surface has been verified by intrinsic reaction coordinate (IRC) computations. Density functional theory (DFT) and multiconfiguratio...
Theoretical investigation of block copolymerization of tetrahydrofuran and pyrrole
Yurtsever, M; Toppare, Levent Kamil (1999-09-01)
In this work, semi-empirical quantum mechanical techniques were employed in order to discuss the feasibility of the copolymerization reaction between tetrahydrofuran and pyrrole starting from two different macromonomers in which polytetrahydrofuran has a pyrrole moiety at one or both ends.
Theoretical investigation of unimolecular reactions of cyclic c5h6 compounds by initio quantum chemical methods
Kınal, Armağan; Özkan, İlker; Department of Chemistry (2004)
Thermodynamic stabilities of eighteen cyclic C5H6 isomers were explored computationally both on singlet and triplet state potential energy surfaces (PES). All isomers have singlet ground states except for bicyclo[2.1.0]pent-5-ylidene (B5) having no stable geometry on the singlet C5H6 PES. Cyclopenta-1,3-diene (M1) is the most stable cyclic C5H6 isomer while cyclopent-1,4-diylidene is the least stable one among all. Cyclopenta-1,2-diene (M2) and cyclopentyne (M3) have biradical characters of 46.9 and 21.5%, ...
